So I'm curious..... I was out soil sampling the other day and walking over the lumps and bumps created by worms got me thinking. Is there a difference in soil fertility between what I'm probing and the worm castings right beside. so I took a sample as well. #valueofworms

@woody_VA @lbossaer Very interesting. In the early 2000’s In Guelph a man presented from a research farm in Ohio (I believe) comparing water infiltration and phosphorus movement in no till vs. tilled. Stated the worm hole walls were high in P. and at that time lower overall P load off the no till.

@WheatPete @cropdoc2 @RidgetownCampus It would be very interesting to see a comparison in the root growth. Also root growth vs top growth for different species. Also root growth of clipped vs non clipped which would of course depend on species. Clipping early certainly reduces matting the next spring.

@cropdoc2 @RidgetownCampus Much better growth with zero N in your plots than in many fields, Dr. Dave. CRITICAL RESEARCH!! 50 N = higher corn yields, 25 pound N credit to next years corn, correct? Any assessment of root growth? Would be really interesting. Roots make organic matter!

Touring my massive long-term cover crop trial @RidgetownCampus this morning. The plots with 50 lbs N/ac at cover crop seeding after wheat have been producing approx 2x more biomass than no N applied over the years. This year no different. Photo shows oat cc (N applied in the background, no N in the foreground. Similar results at the Elora sister site managed by @aacorrendo. Cc @WheatPete

@MdMcLean1 20% Defol, did the whole field look like that. Last fridays rain came down so heavy it tore leaves in fields I was in this week. Looked like hail but corn beside was fine.

@PetkerFarm @farmerschneck That is nasty. I was thinking I’ve got a bit of PRG coming in from roadside ditch. What do you like to use for a sticker Dan.

@farmerschneck ARG doesn't even get used in my waterway mixes! This field will be in bloom end of next week; quite pretty. We hope to get after it on Monday with 2L of 540 plus additional sticker/spreader.

@PkHarveyfarm Kids love worms. When the soil is saturated be sure to do the stamp on the ground test so they can hear them go swooosh

Checking no till fields for earthworms with my granddaughter .She brought them in to show her grandma. My 2 year old grandson brought in a handful of mud .

We have a CanAm Defender similar to the 1 pictured that we are setting up to make SF-RTK Boundary’s with a G5 display and SF7500. Plan is to make Autonomy compatible boundary’s. Looking for mounting suggestions for monitor and beacon.. also tips and tricks for great boundary’s…

@woody_VA @WheatPete @PetkerFarm Not a fan of radish given their ability to find spring fed tile. But I have grown them and those holes do disappear with no tillage.I think from the sideways push of soil from planting equipment which could move some surface soil down . We have stratification but is it a problem

@WheatPete @PetkerFarm The thought came out of what happens with sugarbeet harvest. The beets are pulled out and soil goes back in. The harvester only goes in about 2" the beet holes can be 6" or more. Just wondering if you could replicate it with radish only less aggressively

There has been a lot of discussion on nutrient stratification in no till soils lately. Would a crop of dicon radish left to decay create enough of a hole that would fill with soil in the spring move fertility down to 4 or 5 inches without tillage? Thoughts @WheatPete ?

Thinking we may have finally got a hard enough frost to shut down the sunflowers and sorghum Sudan grass. Some sunflowers looking very close to viable seeds. Almost time to get ⁦@woody_VA⁩ up with his all crop head

I’ve never had them get this mature before. You would know Woody will all the volunteers germinate next year or will they last another year in the soil. ?
