Storms of this magnitude don't happen often in Va, but warnings for extremely severe storms will be treated differently from now on than the marginal severe storms (58+ mph winds, 1-inch hail) we more typically get.

Starting August 2, Severe Thunderstorms deemed “destructive” will activate a Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) on smartphones. Criteria for a destructive threat is at least 2.75 inch diameter hail and/or 80 mph thunderstorm winds. Read more: weather.gov/news/072221-sv…

That’s a wrap on the 2021 edition of @hokiestorm! This was easily one of the best experiences of my life and I’m so thankful for everyone that was a part of it. The memories from this trip will stick with me forever.

Hey @NWSAmarillo, took some quarter to half dollar size hail at the Valero just west of Adrian. Couldn’t grab a picture of the hail since we were taking shelter.
