For people who got a measles vaccine before 1989, I am seeing some sources saying get your titers checked to see if you need a booster and others saying you can check or you can just get a booster. Is there a down side to just boosting?

“A nightmare scenario would be if mankind were targeted by a pathogen that attacks our frontal lobes and changes our personalities. Such a pathogen could bring an end to society as we know it. Unfortunately, the nightmare may be real and taking shape in SARS-CoV-2.”

@aliceinempire @MeetJess I don’t mean to question your intentions, maybe this was a mistake and not thinking things through, but at this point you’ve been thoroughly informed that posting this publicly endangers access for everyone in the US. Choosing to ignore everyone and keep it up is choosing harm.

This is so important: anti-Epstein-Barr drugs are now being investigated as potential treatments for cancer and autoimmune disease. We believe we’re heading in a similar direction for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which evidence increasingly shows can persists within the human body— both in people with AND without Long COVID symptoms. Progress has been slow, due to lack of vision on the part of government funders and big pharma. We’re doing our best to change that, ASAP.
Jon Douglas@atranscendedman

New drugs targeting Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) show promise for cancers and autoimmune diseases. Therapies focus on EBNA-1 inhibitors, G-quadruplex disruptors, and somatostatin receptor blockers, offering new hope for EBV-related illnesses. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

@amymitchellart I am so sorry you went through that! Always better to be safe, and even better if it treats multiple things

I told my doctor that I didn't feel comfortable attracting the attention of men (I'm single, considering dating) without PreP on board. I was raped by someone I barely knew back in 2010. Had an HIV scare. Never want to go through that again. Better to be on PreP and be safe. Plus the TDF form of Truvada treats EBV, too. Double win.

Literally begging providers treating long COVID patients, especially in specialty clinics, to start prescribing antivirals
Amy Mitchell@amymitchellart

Study showing LC neurodamage biomarker improvement after treatment with antivirals. Paxlovid was the antiviral used with great results in this study. Patients were given 15 day courses of the drug. Yet people with acute or long COVID struggle to receive 5 days, a single course, of Paxlovid. I've only been able to receive 10 days of Paxlovid for an infection lasting over 11 months so far. Access is restricted by insurance and @US_FDA labeling- this needs to change, to allow for longer antiviral courses. Many trials have shown Paxlovid's safety in courses lasting 15 days or more. 👏 @LongCFoundation @LongCovidAP & crowdfunders congratulations on your contribution to this study!

@Catinmyfamily @alitz_joe28150 @longcovidlabs I stopped rapid antigen testing as well once I got a negative NAAT in October, and now I only use PlusLife. Very similar to what you went through. I count the last infection as starting in July, but I’d had a more “mild” case of COVID just 5 weeks before that in June

@holleighz @alitz_joe28150 @longcovidlabs I tested positive on and off end of June to Oct 2022 (when I stopped rapid testing once a PCR came back clear). It is why I have always believed I have viral persistence. I’ve been told my markers look like I had Covid 2 months ago & I’m pretty sure I didn’t since I test often.

@amymitchellart I’ve seriously debated whether I could convincingly sell my PCP on a story to ask for “Truvada for PrEP” just to try something to treat this

@holleighz There are antivirals available now that could be prescribed to treat long COVID. Paxlovid, Truvada, maraviroc, and Pemgarda seem to be the most popular, but there are other medications with antiviral-like properties that are possibilities. longcovidactionproject.com/act-now-treatm…

@Catinmyfamily @alitz_joe28150 @longcovidlabs I did 10 days when I was on day 50 of testing positive (on and off, depending on nasal spray and mouthwash use). It stopped the intense nausea and daily vomiting, but all other symptoms returned within 24 hours. That was in Sept. My me/cfs and POTS symptoms got bad after Oct

@holleighz @alitz_joe28150 @longcovidlabs I looked at your timeline, and it looks like you tried a long course of paxlovid? Did it help? Dr Bruce Patterson will write a recommendation to your provider if helpful. (Of course, you have to pay for his labs/advice first.)

@Catinmyfamily @alitz_joe28150 @longcovidlabs I hope it helps! I’m just trying to find anyone willing to prescribe antivirals. My provider at the long Covid clinic says there’s strong evidence I have viral persistence, but they don’t prescribe antivirals. They say I have to ask my PCP, who says nothing is approved for LC

@alitz_joe28150 @longcovidlabs I took it for over a month - no effect for me. Glad it is helping you. I am on maraviroc and atorvastatin now. Hoping for results.

Steve Bannon, after calling for Trump to be President for life, did a Nazi salute on stage at CPAC. Nazism has officially taken over the GOP. The few remaining conservatives have a choice: either leave the party and obstruct it—or choose to be complicit. x.com/julianfeeld/st…

I thought the one silver lining, however thin, was that Dems would be forced to fight against these things and pretend to care again. Phew, was that embarrassingly naive and optimistic. They’re already doing the work to normalize it.
AshleyStevens@The_Acumen

My fear of another Trump presidency was never about Trump. It was always about what he would be allowed to do, and how hard the opposition would fight. I knew the checks weren’t going to be balanced, but I wasn’t prepared for how quickly and easily the Dems would bend the knee.

@LaelYonker @SuitsTracey @MGH_Mucosalists Ok, so I was about to jump in and defend you because I know the hospital policies around masking can be a barrier to providers wearing proper respirators, even if they know better; however, suggesting symptom screening is doing anything at all shows wild misunderstanding and harm

@SuitsTracey @MGH_Mucosalists We all complete symptom screenIng daily, not perfect, but offers some protection. In this day and age of funding cuts and national/international restrictions on COVID research, we should support and promote work to enable progress rather than criticize individuals.

Correct ✅ Covid 19 is causing widespread brain damage on a global scale. SARS-CoV-2 damages the brain. FACT. Brain fog, memory issues, more mistakes/crashes/accidents, less empathy, worsening mental health/emotional regulation. The signs are clear. Signed, a neurologist 🧵
