Hard to imagine that the largest hospital in B.C., Vancouver General Hospital, and the province’s only Level 1 trauma centre, now has to divert pregnant trauma patients due to an OB/GYN shortage. For a pregnant patient suffering severe trauma, this is the last situation anyone would want to face. And the NDP Health Minister continues to say the system is improving. Over the past two days, we have been pressing the minister and the Premier on the Musqueam title agreement. They repeatedly told us the provincial government had nothing to do with it. Today in the Legislature, MLA Larry Neufeld called for a full public inquiry into the tragedy in Tumbler Ridge. The people of Tumbler Ridge deserve honesty, not unanswered questions. Families are grieving. An entire community is hurting. People across British Columbia are struggling to understand what happened. We need a public inquiry to fully and transparently examine what happened: whether warning signs were missed, systems failed to connect, or tools that existed weren’t used. Tumbler Ridge should not be left with silence and uncertainty alongside their grief. They deserve clear answers about what happened.
