@LocasaleLab My wife was on this trial. Stage 4 panc cancer, 40 years old. She was in this trial and lived 18 months after chemo stopped working. We took trips to Spain, Disney, Jersey Shore. She got two more birthdays with our kids. Shove your hype and misrepresentation up your ass.

This is exactly the kind of hype and misrepresentation that has defined cancer research and oncology for decades.
After 40+ years of work and well over $100B in taxpayer funding, what’s being presented as a revolution is a survival improvement of about 6–7 months.
Patients don’t even get an additional birthday.
This is now being hyped by the biotech industry and amplified by academic scientists as if it represents some fundamental breakthrough. It doesn’t.
What’s even more concerning is that almost no one is calling this out. The same narrative gets repeated, the same approaches get reinforced, and the same cycle continues.
Billions of taxpayer dollars will continue to fund this. Venture capital will continue to flow into biotech companies built around these claims. Pharma will continue to allocate time and resources here. Healthcare expenses for the public will continue to be greater than ever.
Meanwhile, entire areas of cancer research and oncology practice—particularly early detection and prevention—remain neglected.

This truly resonates with so many doctors. The burnout rate is high. The suicide rate is high. If many doctors have the chance to choose again, many won't choose medicine. Many doctors can only continue moving forward because as you said, there's really nothing else to do... So many years already invested

@BrentAWilliams2 I don’t think they understand how much 40 hours of education in medical school is. They think in normal time. Oh, that is just a week! Nah. The ~4 lectures I got was insufficient but 40!?! And every lecture hour is 2-3 study hours for the gunners. That is a big chunk.

Mike’s claim sounds tidy, but it’s wrong.
If eating the same number of calories were all Ozempic did, the STEP trials wouldn’t exist.
Here’s what the data actually show:
• Semaglutide causes more weight loss than calorie restriction alone.
In STEP 1, both groups were prescribed a reduced-calorie diet and physical activity.
– Semaglutide: −14.9% body weight
– Placebo (same calorie advice): −2.4%
That ~12.5% difference is the drug effect, not willpower.
• Pair-feeding studies settle this directly.
When animals on semaglutide are fed the same number of calories as controls, they still lose more weight and more fat mass. Identical intake, different outcomes.
• Why?
Semaglutide isn’t just “eating less.” It:
– Alters hypothalamic appetite signaling
– Reduces food reward and cravings
– Changes meal size and eating behavior
– Improves metabolic efficiency of fat loss
Calories matter. Biology matters more.
If “just eat the same amount” worked, obesity pharmacotherapy wouldn’t outperform lifestyle intervention by a mile—and it consistently does.
This isn’t opinion. It’s randomized trials and controlled physiology.
