Byram was an absolute stud at 17 in his draft year. Led Van to WHL final Game 7 v. an experienced Prince Albert team. I’m always intrigued how people assume the #4 pick this year will be so much better than Byram. I bet he thrives in Chicago. Run the PP. Will move puck up to Bedard and other skilled forwards. He was 21st in 5x5 scoring last year. More next year. Very competitive player. Chicago can’t keep waiting for youth. He’s only 25. Has won a Cup and will boost Chicago’s blueline. The suggestions this is a terrible trade seems to be based solely on the overrating of what #4 could be, and usually player doesn’t reach the outlandish expectation.

Mark Spector pointed out in his article on the Oilers potentially hiring Mike Babcock that plenty of successful coaches weren't universally loved by their players. Some players disliked Scotty Bowman. Glen Sather had his critics. And Darryl Sutter certainly isn't known for receiving Christmas cards from all of his former players. Will see what Babs brings to the Edmonton Oilers starting next week.

Sounds like there’s been some discussion between the Oilers and Connor Murphy’s camp. Today’s Babcock news doesn’t change anything as far as the players willingness to consider a return to the Oilers, but term and dollars will have to make sense based on the market.

Darnell Nurse is going to get dragged a lot after his trade request but the truth is regardless of some of his crazy stats like own goals and defensive lapses in high pressure situations he still has a ton of value on another team. Exceptional teammate and person Fully engaged in every game Protects star players Sacrifices for blocked shots Can play in all situations including PK/PP Insanely Athletic and durable Can log huge minutes consistently Great mentor and good for team culture Extremely High work ethic Punishing hitter and tough physically Drags others into the fight Coachable and receptive He’s not a guy you win a championship with on your 1st pairing but could see him landing and having a perfect role on a rebuilding team - which absolutely has value. Especially with some retention to put him in the pay range of that type of player. Not his fault he was overpaid and overplayed by the Oilers. All the best Doc 🫡🫡🫡
