I think about this video once a day. Capybaras walking sombrely in a line as if it were a funeral, for it was. Their home was no more, and they walk with no knowing where they would rest next. The background music a lament for the natural world.
Silly Stu@sillystu4u

when I was looking for this video of capybaras in brazil most versions had obnoxious music that felt genuinely disrespectful to what's going on here. I put warabe uta from princess kaguya and teared up

@joshuawwy I did read what he said a few times. I still think it’s pretty clear there was far more over-extending on his part than my one line tweet.

@joshuawwy Conversations on boycott of UAE presently is actually primarily about their complicity in the genocide in Sudan. And there are absolutely people calling for boycott of china and Saudi for their complicity re: Israel, Yemen, Sudan too. middleeasteye.net/explainers/why…

If you told teen me that the frontman of one of my favourite local bands would end up writing a long essay projecting so much about me (as part of a group of “people like this” he has in mind) from a one-line tweet, I would not have believed it…

As a moderate person, I believe everyone should be allowed to do / say whatever they want. It's their free will. I'm also supportive of people advocating for their cause by means of dialogue, reasonableness and actions (ie. leading by example). But here's my observation (not specific to folks behind this cause but in general). There's no way to reason with people like this. They are so deep into their own belief system that they think whatever they support is the only righteous thing and whatever that falls outside of that precise bracket (even to the slightest degree) is condemnable, sub-par and ignorant, while preaching and (sorta) claiming to be the proponent of virtuousness and empathy. There is zero nuance. It is not.. appreciated. And of coz we are all privileged. The RNG gods were kind to us. But does that mean that struggles and aspirations of other common folk can be shrugged off? Others have lives of their own, their own life goals which they want to achieve, their own freedom of choice. And you get to "decide" what's.. moral? Where people should or should not go for their holidays? You're a nobody to them. While I understand the spirit behind boycotting, imo it frequently devolves into this convulted Russian nesting doll effect.. a constant purity test that never ends. To each their own, but man, what an exhausting way to live. Despite my beliefs, I do not claim to be "right" or whatever. People can make up their own minds. The free market decides. If there's a purpose for this post, it would be perhaps to highlight a POV from a "middle of the road" person.

Hari Raya is always so rough on my social battery 😭 But also reminding myself it is a blessed thing to have such gatherings and family ties still. Tbh I always think these days what future Eids will look like for me as someone who doesn’t plan to marry or have kids.

Pigs don't just feel fear themselves. They also feel the fear of other pigs — and try to comfort them. In one study, pigs watching another pig in distress first showed fear themselves and then tried to comfort the distressed pig through snout-to-snout contact. Pigs who'd previously endured the same ordeal reacted even more intensely — they seemed to recognize what the distressed pig was going through. (Goumon & Špinka, 2016.) On factory farms, pigs trapped in gestation crates aren't just feeling afraid themselves. They're feeling the fear of all the other pigs around them. But the crate's iron bars stop them from even turning toward their fellow pigs — let alone comforting them with their snout.

Nozomi IIjima's "Scoffing Pig" is maybe most tragic photobook I've seen. She follows pigs on a farm, showing how the pigs understand the horror of which they are a part.

📌NEW: #Rohingya refugees in #Malaysia are being held indefinitely in abusive immigration detention—sometimes for years—without legal recourse or access to judicial review, according to a new investigation by @FortifyRights. Malaysia’s new refugee registration scheme must end the criminalization of Rohingya and other refugees, recognize their ongoing persecution in #Myanmar, and immediately release them from detention. “For Rohingya, due to their manufactured statelessness, they can be detained indefinitely in legal limbo, subjected to years of severe abuse and inhumane treatment, “ said @yaplaysheng, Senior Human Rights Specialist at @FortifyRights. "Malaysia should abide by international legal standards and follow the U.N. Refugee Convention.” Read full news release: fortifyrights.org/mly-inv-2026-0…

Papua’s forests are being cleared for oil palm plantations in Genyem, Jayapura. While attention focuses on Merauke, deforestation is quietly expanding across Papua. This threatens biodiversity, Indigenous communities, and the home of the Birds of Paradise. The world must not stay silent. Stand with West Papua and demand that the government of Prabowo Subianto stop the destruction of Papua’s forests. 🌏 #FreeWestPapua #StopEcocide #ProtectPapua

Not a single media outlet is talking about the chemical warfare attack on Iran by Israel. Bombing oil depots and refineries is absolute madness. It is ecological disaster by design.
