A Fishers woman is out 345k dollars in an elaborate fraud scheme. We try to warn you as so many cases are reported every day. This one involved multiple financial transactions, wire transfers and crypto currency. In this scheme police arrested 21-year-old Anmolpreet Singh. He is currently being held on 25k bond and an ICE detainer. Police say the victim was first contacted back in January by the scammers saying she was implicated in a child pornography investigation. Over a four month period the scammers pretended to be federal officers and coerced her into giving them money. Singh is also accused of sending the victim a fake arrest warrant. Eventually on April 30th the woman called police telling them she believed she fell for a scheme. Fishers Police and federal law enforcement set up a sting to catch Singh in the act. He thought he was coming to Indy to get another 50k. Detectives utilized Flock cameras and once Singh arrived in the neighborhood they used drones to monitor him and take him into custody. Police say he drove from New York, to Chicago and then to Fishers were he was caught on May 4th. Singh was in court yesterday and when asked if would like to let his home country know he was being detained he told the judge no. He was having a hard time understanding the charges against him and the judge said for the next hearing they will have a Punjabi interpreter available. He faces 1-6 years in prison if convicted. Fishers Police are still trying to determine if Singh was working with a larger group of people. The believe there are several suspects involved. Fishers Police encourage residents to remain cautious of unsolicited calls, emails, or messages claiming to be from government agencies or law enforcement, especially when demands for money, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or secrecy are involved.
