this week felt like attending a big ai conference, except that it wasn't one. i just kept meeting incredible people, getting invited to speak, and hanging out with my researchy (and not only!) friends. it started with my talk at south park commons on how we are scaling towards AGI with MoEs (thanks @yaroslavvb for inviting me!). I challenged myself to make it more inspirational than my typical research oriented discussion. Seeing so many people asking questions afterward felt amazing (exhausting, but happy-exhausting!) then i had dinner with @yaroslavvb, @achowdhery, @V_Vanhoucke, Illia Polosukhin, @Thom_Wolf, @howdymj, Eugen Chebotar, @slaterstich, Alexander Skidanov, and @lukaszkaiser (thanks @ekang426 for the invite!). I loved how everyone thinks about their post AGI self. So many people come back to their childhood hobbies, except for @Thom_Wolf who is certain @huggingface will still be around too 🤗 my main takeaway from this week is seeing people in person is so much more exciting than knowing them from their research/career online. People talk about everything beyond work, and you suddenly become friends who share hobbies or discover new ones together (@mint0themax and @howdymj lets convince @yaroslavvb to go line dancing with us!)

I launched “Attention is All You Eat” dinner series in SF, which consists of researchers in AI of top caliber who are making a significant impact on our lives. The inaugural dinner was co-hosted with @slaterstich and the BCV team at their iconic office. In the age of AI, irl connections are going to become more meaningful and quality curation is going to matter a lot. Surrounding yourself with people who can intellectually challenge you, share similar passions, and who are simply pleasant to be around - is where the next frontier is.
