@levelsio Many equate legit business to corporate. To them, one cannot be doing serious work if he is just working by himself without working at a "good" job to get some "real" work experience.

Still having a mindset of understanding you can make and sell a product or service out of thin air and make a profit and not assume you need to get money by working for someone else, seemed completely nonexistant with those people. Or they assumed it'd be high risk low money $

I remember vividly in 2014 being at a house party in Amsterdam and the uni educated ppl asking me when I was going to stop f'ing around and get a real job at KPMG, Unilever, Nestle, etc. feelsgoodman.xlsx

Friends and family on your startup journey: $0/month: "Wtf are you doing?" $1k/mo: "How does this thing even make money?" $3k/mo: "Why would you quit your $100k job to make $3k/mo?" $10k/mo: "Businesses grow??" $50k/mo: "You are a genius, I knew it all along."

@DavidSacks Thank you for raising the awareness. It's ridiculous how repeat offenders (5 times in 6 months?!!) can just go out and do whatever they want like that. Anything more than one time is too much. And it's a total joke that property crimes are regarded as not deleterious to others.

✨ I also made a fully functional fake 👩‍💻 VS Code so if you're a programmer you too can browse remote jobs in your office without your boss finding out It's called index.php remoteok.io/vscode

if you have to try so hard to convince the people you want to help, maybe you should stop (?).

@PocketBryan And since you have already bought it, I'd just run with it. You can always buy the popular domains later when you need those.

@PocketBryan looks nice, and it does look minimal. I don't think it's a big problem that it's not a .com. Although it might have SEO benefits for .com, I have seen companies making non-popular second level domains work.

@erinmikail @rosiesherry So true. This is what I'm afraid of. Want to start a community, thought charging as a way to keep bad actors out (still trying to figure out how to provide enough value if I really do charge money). Community is hard work. Appreciate your input🙂

@howsun7 @rosiesherry NOTE — this does not have to be exculsionary, we can have friction and still allow folks to join. In fact — sometimes this friction makes it so bad actors or spam stays out 😉

@erinmikail @rosiesherry Thanks for the insight:) I think the data science community I'm currently in has this problem. Most appear to be offline. The few ppl that are online don't talk. The engagement level drops off like crazy after the first few days...

@howsun7 @rosiesherry Mindful friction — sometimes communities are super easy to join, almost *too* easy which leads to bloat. Here's some things I recommend thinking about: — invite not publicly displayed — invite those with a % of opens to newsletter — fill out form to be invited

There are many limiting beliefs for bootstrapped founders. Here is one that I regularly struggle with: "It needs to be perfect before I should show it to people" What other limiting beliefs have you encountered throughout your own journeys?

Always wanted to organize “Running a company as an introvert founder” conference. Who would want to attend that?

In this new world of work, business travel becomes a video meeting. Meetings become emails. Emails become messages. And messages become emojis. By transitive property business travel will be replaced by emoji.

@dothehokipoki I like the indie stack section; it's cool to see what tech stacks indie hackers are using for their businesses. It's also cool to find all the resources for web dev and design on the same site.
