Bud Denker dreamed last summer of holding an IndyCar race in downtown Washington, DC. He had put on IndyCar races in other cities, but the nation's capital presented a unique challenge.

I get that drivers aren’t supposed to burn out on the bricks, and am all for that, but I just don’t get the outrage. They’re clean, no lasting harm. Don’t do it again, but beyond that, why are people so mad?

@BobScheurle @A_S12 @IndyCar @CNN It's an investment with return, not a marketing expense as a regular advertising campaign. So there is some 💵 coming back.. hopefully they don't loose money, and if they end loosing money that is for the exposition value. Also not our money

@Formula360es No creo que sea IndyCar quien se gaste USD 35 Millones que no tienen para una carrera gratuita. Si apenas llegan están al punto de equilibrio como es posible eso, y si de verdad los tienen, por qué no invertir en tecnología para las carreras, motores y nuevas pistas 🤔

But as I said, PENSKE/the series HATE spending money on marketing, promoting, international races, new car, hybrid etc & are now spending 35 million on a 1 off race with free tickets
