I am honestly shocked after watching this. A minister going on national TV and sharing what was said on a victim support helpline… just a day after someone died by suicide? How can we as a country let this be the normal. It’s unprofessional and unethical. That was someone’s most vulnerable moment. Those conversations are supposed to be sacred, protected, private, safe. Instead, they were exposed live on TV. Not only does this violate her dignity, it puts out raw, triggering details that can deeply affect others who are already struggling. Additionally, if this is how confidential helplines are treated, how can anyone else feel safe enough to reach out for help? Government and ministers are not supposed to stoop to the level of social media gossip groups. Those at the top are meant to set the example, by holding themselves to the highest standards, always. That didn’t happen here. So I’m asking the media and everyone on social platforms: please take up that responsibility yourselves. Do not repeat what was said. Do not amplify or share her msgs. Protect what little dignity and trust remains.

@MickailNaseem isn’t just talk, he’s delivered. From his viral 2012 speech that cost him a Cambridge scholarship (which he still won through sheer grit) to landslide victories as MP, to pushing for housing solutions and holding power accountable in Parliament. Even his alma mater, Jamaluddin School, proudly called him “irrefutable proof that determination and diligence bring their own rewards” and expressed full confidence that he will “carve a space for himself in the pages of Maldivian history.” That’s the kind of leader MDP needs as Chairperson. #Meekail4CP #StrongerTogether

I challenge everyone walking alongside Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to debate me on this. Think long and hard about who you're supporting. @MDPSecretariat @ibusolih

Ten commissioners in 22 years. Three in the last two and a half under one president. Average tenure: 2.2 years. The OSCE says police must stand outside politics. The Council of Europe requires operational independence. India’s Supreme Court mandated a minimum two-year tenure. The Patten Commission recommended three to five years. The Maldives violates all of them. Australia’s police commissioners serve five-year terms. Canada averages 5.3 years. The UK averages 5.7. The countries that match our turnover rate are Pakistan and post-Zuma South Africa. One produced what Human Rights Watch called “among the most abusive police institutions in the world.” The other saw a commissioner convicted of corruption and arrests drop 24.5%. That’s the company we keep. The 2020 Police Service Act requires every commissioner candidate to submit a four-year policing plan. No commissioner under this president has served even half that. The plans are submitted, scored, and ignored. Research across 13,000 leadership successions confirms what common sense already tells you: organizations in permanent leadership churn never reach the phase where strategy produces results. Reforms die with the person who started them. Officers learn to outlast the boss, not invest in the vision. Corruption investigations stall the moment they touch anyone connected to the person who controls the appointment. When the latest vacancy was first advertised, it received zero applicants. Qualified officers won’t apply for the top job in their own service. That’s not a recruitment problem. That’s a professional class telling you the position is toxic. This isn’t instability. It’s design. A revolving door at the top ensures no commissioner ever builds enough institutional power to say no. To anyone. Ten commissioners. Twenty-two years. And counting.
