@nimilamalee Yes, which is very concerning. The delays occurred were very convincing for them. One might argue those delays were deliberate. They gained all their experience to be eligible by supplying coal only to LCC which they obtained through a very controversial deal.

@hthemaka Potencia was registered last-minute like Trident this year, by the way.

@nimilamalee Deflect from current issue? I don't think a coal issue has been discussed to this extent ever before in Sri Lanka. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is on it. How do you even deflect from something like that?

@nimilamalee Your latest article which I have quoted does not note any irregularities with assignment of Potencia after Black Sands. I don't believe even the previous article captures the gravity of what's raised by AG report. Term tender cancellation hadn't happened back then.

AG's report on Potencia can be found here. Entire thing stinks. Looks like Potencia obtained all their experience to be registered this time by competing unfairly. auditorgeneral.gov.lk/web/images/aud…

2024/25 term tender was cancelled and SCAPC decision was disregarded to award the tender to a registered supplier. Instead the tender was award to Potencia on recommendation of a different Cabinet Appointed sub committee, which is a gross violation of procurement guidelines...

@chami9539 Many similar questionable observations. For example executive summary states South African laboratory didn't have access which is untrue. It didn't have the ASTM test only for ash composition. For the rest, it was accredited.

@chami9539 I think AG gas rushed the process to get the report out as early as possible and has made many mistakes in doing that. Here, AG has overcome the HLPC decision. As per that, having registration at the time of bid submission is sufficient because the suppliers r already approved

This should be sufficient to call the entire Coal Fiasco into question. This is corruption as far as I can see. No one in good faith awards a tender to a company registered days before the tender is awarded. Shame on all in the NPP for defending Jayakody and closing ranks. Rank hypocrisy on full display and shameless betrayal of all those who trusted the NPP to bring about #SystemChangeLK. #SriLanka

@nimilamalee I checked the draft tender docs; Main financial requirements are $50 of annual turnover and $15 as working capital which I'd say is pretty standard. Trident would have satisfied this criteria without an issue.

Why was a company hired to provide coal if its financials aren't strong enough to withstand fines for selling glaringly off-specification goods?

"The problem is that, because of these unlimited fines, if by chance the company says, ‘I’m bankrupt, there is nothing I can do’, we might be able to sue them and recover the fine later, but where do we get coal from then?” he maintained. “We will have no coal.”

@RehanJayawick Trident is a LCC registered supplier. As a part of registration, supplier needs to provide details on supplies they have completed during last 3 years. And LCC would have verified those prior to registration. So can't say background checks weren't done

Minister Bimal Rathnayake admits substandard coal was imported for Lakvijaya. Lab tests confirmed it. The supplier faces fines up to US$2M. The CEB is staring at a Rs. 7.6B loss. Limited options now, we’re told. Switching suppliers risks shortages. This is a crisis that should never have happened. A simple, and I mean very basic, background check on the supplier would have raised red flags. Instead, we are paying the price for poor due diligence and even poorer accountability. #lka

@FoxNews Text book war crime. It was returning from a joint naval exercise took place in India and wasn't posing any threat at all. Even during times of war, attacking a ship that wasn't an imminent threat is a war crime. And US hasn't even declared official war against Iran.

'A QUIET DEATH': Department of War releases video showing a U.S. submarine sinking an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean. It marks the first sinking of an enemy ship by torpedo since World War II. Secretary of War Hegseth saying, "Like in that war, back when we were still the War Department. We are fighting to win."

The administration admits 🇮🇱 dragged us into the 🇮🇷 war that’s already cost too many American lives and billions of dollars. Before it’s over, the price of gas, groceries, and virtually everything else is going to go up. The only winners in 🇺🇸 are defense company shareholders.

So he's flat out telling us that we're in a war with Iran because Israel forced our hand. This is basically the worst possible thing he could have said.

Iran's war strategy is fairly straightforward: Blind U.S. forces by taking out radar installations, then fire low-cost, low-end missiles and drones at various targets to deplete U.S. air defense interceptors. Once U.S. air defense batteries run out of ammunition, then Iran will launch the larger, more dangerous hypersonic missiles or even ballistic missiles. I created this infographic to explain this. Full article coming tomorrow.
