United were poor last night, there’s no getting away from that. But it also highlights just how much investment and squad building is still needed. You can criticise Carrick and the coaches, that’s fair, but we also have to face reality. This squad is average to good at best in too many areas. Look at what poor recruitment did to City last season. Even Pep Guardiola, arguably the greatest coach of this generation, couldn’t simply ‘coach’ them back to the top. It took around £550 million in the last year to correct it and it still isn’t right. So why are some United fans pushing the idea that an interim manager should somehow magically fix everything or losing their minds over the imperfections in our play? Criticism is necessary and healthy, but the conversation around United has become far too polarised and reactionary. Instead of chasing clicks, debating title races after every result, or starting a new manager argument every 30 seconds, maybe we should talk honestly about the deeper issues at the club. Otherwise we’re just playing straight into the media narrative. Wise up
