What’s one thing primary schools did 20 years ago that was actually better than what we do today?

@dave43law Not just attending but actual proper evaluations. My MP holds a surgery ONCE a month (and only by filtered appointment). Letters are often stick replies from an assistant. We need real targets and evaluations. ATM many do very little.

Now there's a change most would get behind 🤣🤣

@joel120193 @johncosgrove405 @DudeAdhd The increase in suspensions etc… could go both ways ‘higher’ expectations or ‘unreasonable’ expectations containing. As well as a growing ‘macho’ stand in some schools.

I conceit that. I actually wrote about this a while ago and looked at articles from 1999 on the issue of rising poor behaviour. However, do you think the rise in suspensions is just because schools got trigger happy? Or they are just more clear in their expectations and upholding them? The government is making a bad decision. Students need to be suspended. If a student comes to lesson and disturbs the learning of the rest in the classroom, the teacher have given them multiple opportunities to improve, and they choose not to, that student should be removed.

In 1970 the UK and Norway were roughly equal, almost no debt, and owned all their Public Services. Now the UK owns nothing and has £3tn of debt. While Norway still owns everything and has the equivalent of £10tn. That's how privatisation 'works'.

@adamboxer1 It's really interesting when people who say they are evidence informed dismiss the evidence they don't like as being poorly designed. Shouldn't we be curious about this?

Many education systems aren’t teaching them because they cannot be taught devoid of content. Creativity depends on the domain content the agent possesses. It’s very hard to be creative about something you don’t understand or have no familiarity. If you want kids to be creative artists/ scientists/ writers, teach them about art/ science/ writing etc. Creativity is a natural human response to the world. How informed that response is depends heavily on their content understanding.

@premnsikka A good move would be to ban private companies from delivery of bulk mail - all items under £2 should be RM only as part of the universal franchise. The move away from this allows the ‘cream’ to be scooped whilst demanding service from RM.

Royal Mail could be allowed to end second class letters delivery on Saturdays. 1st class stamp now £1.35; 2nd class 85p. Privatised 2013: 1st class 60p; 2nd class 50p. 70%-125% price rise for worse service. Privatisation = higher prices, lower service. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@abbyaug Does he ‘set’ 3/4 hours a day work for his staff over the holidays? Does he have any understanding of R&R and the importance of this? Of wellbeing? Glad never to work with or for anyone like this.

@premnsikka Agree with profit motive but also criminal charges need to be levied on directors.
