Just applied for a job at Revolut for a Comms Manager - Northern Europe, let's see what happens. You think I would be a suitable candidate for such a role?

@neilcybart Same. It’s not only the best looking weather app but the most accurate in my experience. Plus the only native app of iPhone meaning notifications, wallpaper, widgets, just all work more smoothly. Which is what a reliable weather app should do.

This is pure gaslighting. Apple’s default Weather app is scary accurate when it comes to U.S. hyperlocal weather. This is the technology Apple got its hands on with Dark Sky. The technology also powers any weather app that relies on WeatherKit. As for other weather items like 10-day forecasts and precipitation forecasts, I find Apple's Weather app to be accurate as well (again, speaking of the U.S.). Very often, Apple’s Weather app will lead with the other weather apps eventually landing where Apple had been all along. Certain storms will inevitably bust or end up being different than forecasted. That’s weather. Apple’s Weather app is an all-around great app. I have no reservation in recommending it for those in the U.S.

Here, I've made a handy venn diagram to understand phone weather apps 😅 If you're using Google or Apple default weather - it'll be gorgeous, but unfortunately it's not even close to accurate The big ones, like Weather Channel and Accuweather have such ugly apps... but at least the data is actually good Carrot weather on iOS might be the only actually good one right now? RIP to Dark Sky, the original king

@maxkarpis However Monzo has had the advantage of offering loans, credit cards to the UK for some years now which has kept it more useful than Revolut. At least for UK folks.

In an intresting twist, the fired CEO of Monzo, TS Anil, is to take a seat on the board which fired him, as the shareholder battle initiated by Ribbit, Iconiq and Accel... at Monzo continues. One side wants to expand internationally; the other wants to focus on the UK, an IPO, and probably make an exit. Diana Layfield to become new CEO at #Monzo, FT reports. ft.com/content/3405c6… Having a strong leader at the top with significant control is utmost important; if not, different interests will pull the organisation apart and stall progress.

@maxkarpis I think of Monzo as the best uk bank. I was in first 5000 to open an account. For someone with 90% of banking needs in the uk, it’s kind of the best app I think. If someone is global or in more than one country, then Revolut is better for everything else.

@yakuzeg This a really good idea. As a widget for iOS lock screens, this would be an unbelievably popular app.

Lock screen mirror I noticed we all check our look through the front camera, but the current flow is slow for that use-case because you need to open the full camera view and flip the camera each time. So I started exploring different approaches for this.

This was a pinch-me moment! Last night HUGE* received an award for contribution to journalism from @Poynter alongside the New York Times' @DeanBaquet and introduced by my incredible friend @DKThomp! I left a media company to make HUGE* because I believe in our mission: when people see a better future, they help build it. And because I see YouTube as a place for real journalism and great storytelling. Last night was a celebration of journalism in all its forms. I’m so proud to be part of it.

@niccruzpatane Integration of charging and overall UI Tesla has got it down very well yes. Personally I prefer the design of Apple Maps however. It’s very little details but makes a difference in my view. As the map is a main thing you use, I just find preferring apple each time.

BMW’s VP of UI/UX Development says Apple CarPlay’s popularity is a myth, and people don’t use it as much as you think. I personally think CarPlay is very overrated. Nothing beats a well-designed integrated UI, and no one does it better than Tesla.

@ewanmakepeace @niccruzpatane I agree, when travelling and picking up cars for a few days, familiarity and things just working makes CarPlay valuable. Plus it has the best design of maps to read and use.

@niccruzpatane If Tesla is so superior why not allow Carplay and let the users choose? I dont own a car but rent frequently - being able to use Carplay no matter the model of car is a game changer.

We launched a new podcast yesterday - A Question of Science - commissioned by and recorded at The Francis Crick Institute in London. Episodes include cancer research, the nature of consciousness, dementia, longevity, AI and space exploration - discussed by a panel of experts, driven by audience questions, moderated by me. I found it all mind blowing :-) lnk.to/AQuestionOfSci…

$HOOD I have a ton of thoughts from the HOOD summit last week in Vegas that I'll be writing up over the coming days, but it led me to a fundamental conclusion that I now genuinely believe: Robinhood will be worth $1T one day. I don't know when, but the formula has become quite obvious to me following the summit: Product Velocity (10-15 new products per year) Vertical Velocity (2-3 new markets entered per year) Market Velocity (1-2 new markets entered per year) If Vlad can continue shipping products at the current rate, attaching those products to new markets (for example a few we've seen this year are prediction markets, banking, mortgages, futures) and then bringing those products to new geographies like UK last year, EU expansion this year, and Singapore soon... Then Robinhood is going to be democratizing financial services to hundreds of millions of people at 40%+ operating margins. Then, you have 3 major macro themes in their favor: Crypto (tokenization expands their TAM by 100x) AI (cortex will be a game changer for stock analysis + a million other usecases) Wealth Transfer ($80T passed down from boomers over the next 30 years, a decent amount likely entering into Robinhood) This is going to a $1T, I don't know when, but $HOOD Summit made it obvious that they are not slowing down.
