Two weeks ago, we launched The Metis List. Since then, we've spoken with many of you and have updated the ranking accordingly. 128 top AI researchers, ranked by their peers.

1/n I’m thrilled to share that our @OpenAI reasoning system scored high enough to achieve gold 🥇🥇 in one of the world’s top programming competitions - the 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) - placing first among AI participants! 👨‍💻👨‍💻

@littmath i don’t think this is surprising 1. population growth would drive gdp growth even if only the 99.9th percentile people contributed 2. ai will drive massive growth if it can push out the quality of the highest skilled knowledge workers

i agree! my take: the first 90% of intelligence and reliability you can notice immediately in the chat app the last 1% you will only notice in gdp growth it is a very good model. it listens much better to what i want. i'm really proud of my coworkers who shipped it
ben@benhylak

first of all, gpt-5 in ChatGPT != gpt-5 in API but it gets more complicated. gpt-5 with minimal reasoning effort also behaves like a completely different model. gpt-5 *is* a fantastic model with the right harness. and i believe we will see it fundamentally change products.

@littmath i think no i think the initial chatgpt launch had economic impact that we can’t measure well. i think gpt-5 will have similar positive impact i think you need a lot of 9s to get the growth i want to see

I'm impressed with GPT-5's coding capabilities but I'm most excited about its creative writing. Here's the start of a vignette:

my bar for agi is an ai that can learn to run a gas station for a year without a team of scientists collecting the Gas Station Dataset

1/N I’m excited to share that our latest @OpenAI experimental reasoning LLM has achieved a longstanding grand challenge in AI: gold medal-level performance on the world’s most prestigious math competition—the International Math Olympiad (IMO).

working with anna and quentin to set up snowcap has been a highlight of the past year so excited for what they’re cooking (at -269°C)
Pat Gelsinger@PGelsinger

Excited to share the launch of Snowcap Compute, a company building the first commercially viable superconducting compute platform, backed by a $23M seed round led by @Playground_VC. This marks my first public investment as General Partner at Playground, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to support a team that’s redefining the performance frontier for computing – classical, AI and quantum – the trinity of computing will all benefit from superconducting and Snowcap! Snowcap is building the foundation for the post-CMOS era, one that will demand dramatic leaps in performance and power efficiency for AI, HPC, and quantum-classical hybrid workloads. This is deep tech at its finest. Honored to join the board and support Mike Lafferty, Anna Herr, Quentin Herr, and the incredible Snowcap team. reuters.com/business/snowc…

It's deeply concerning that one of the best AI researchers I've worked with, @kaicathyc, was denied a U.S. green card today. A Canadian who's lived and contributed here for 12 years now has to leave. We’re risking America’s AI leadership when we turn away talent like this.

Here I'm thinking of someone from the lab where I started as an undergraduate research scientists. 1 out of every 3 sentences he spoke would be some form of meme. I just can't imagine what led to that...

the internet has nerfed a surprisingly large number of people into having mostly memes in their cots. "friendship ended with Y", "Y U NO" "Ain't nobody got time for that" i can only imagine what entertainment-focused LLMs will do
