@idanbabyonchain Which is why live action adaptations of animated media needs to just stop. It’s either bad because it’s the same story or bad because it’s a new one. There’s no winning.

@Pras_fpl So, what you’re saying is, teams will play an extra 30 minutes, and if nobody scores, penalties will be the deciding factor? Revolutionary.

There is a better way. Play the penalty shootout straight after 90 mins. The winner of the shootout gets a 0.5 goal lead going into 30 mins of extra time. Now the team that lost the pens has a chance to win and crucially, no matter score, there is one team that has to go for it at all times, making extra time fun too.
The New York Times@nytimes

From @TheAthleticFC: Penalty shootouts are brutal. Is there a better way to settle tied games? A fairer way? A more fitting test of skills? We asked our writers and this is what they think the World Cup can steal from other sports: nyti.ms/3SAbKgI

I knew it. I KNEW it. Europeans, & especially the English, can NOT tolerate the idea that the USA may possibly be a good footballing nation, so they downplay anything that might suggest it. The rational response is "Wow, this Paraguay team is no joke!" Rob's response, however:
Rob Dawson@RobDawsonESPN

The aura is gone, the penalty shootout invincibility smashed. Germany are no longer a World Cup super power. It’s back to the drawing board after another early exit. From Boston. espn.com/soccer/story/_…

Elite-tier ragebait. Europeans: “Americans don’t understand! There’s nothing like a British heat wave!” Also Europeans: “Ehrm, fix your climate issues America; it’s too hot there!”
Henrick Johansson@compliantvc

It will be over 40 degrees (104 degrees Fahrenheit) in the American city of Tucson, Arizona today Dozens of people like likely melt Yet American media is dead silent on this Instead, they obsess over the heat wave in Europe Worry about your own warming climate, Americans

It’s crazy that people are playing up an obvious tongue-in-cheek “you’re irrelevant” trash talk. It’s the journalistic equivalent of the “what the fuck is a kilometer” meme. Nobody is minimizing Bosnian citizens or their geopolitical struggles. It’s just “sit down lil bro.”

One uncomfortable truth that nobody wants to talk about is that the quality of players has declined globally. Not to downplay Africa's achievements, but the regular power houses also don't have as much star quality as they used to. Look at the lineups of nations like Germany, Spain, Brazil, etc. Mostly average players in most positions. Any fearless, organised team can go toe to toe with most European and South American teams these days.
DREN!!@City_Dren

🚨 Didier Drogba: Nine African nations reaching the knockout stage is more than a statistic - it's a statement. 🗣️ "I can't remember the last time Africa made this kind of impact at a World Cup. What we're witnessing isn't luck or coincidence - it's the result of years of growth, belief and hard work. I've watched many of the African teams throughout this tournament, and every nation that qualified earned it on merit. Ghana stood toe-to-toe with England without fear. Senegal showed why they're one of Africa's finest footballing nations. Morocco, South Africa, DR Congo, Côte d'Ivoire and Cape Verde all played with courage, discipline and conviction. Cape Verde's story is especially remarkable. A nation with a small population has proved that organisation, belief and teamwork can compete with football's biggest names. The biggest difference is the mentality. African teams are no longer arriving just to participate - they're arriving to compete, to qualify and to challenge for the biggest prizes. The rest of the world should take notice because African football is entering a new era. This isn't just a good tournament for Africa. It feels like the beginning of something much bigger."

ABC 7 Los Angeles reporter Abigail Velez went too far, in my view. She used biting sarcasm, unnecessary colloquialism and did zero research on the US next opponent, Bosnia 🇧🇦 in her game preview. This is her apology statement for her unprofessional conduct. My advice to budding broadcast journalists is this: take the necessary time to get to know the subjects you’re talking about. It might mean the difference between having job security and entering a long unemployment line in our business. (ABC News president happens to be Bosnian.)

Appreciate the statement but this doesn’t really meet the moment. It wasn’t just a bad joke. Let’s move on and hope for better.

@EdwinGames4 @PopC_Theology I really wish Americans had been introduced to soccer by literally ANYONE other than the English. It’s general Euro snobbery, sure, but it’s mostly driven by the folks across the pond, who have a vested social interest in disregarding/downplaying American success in the sport.

@hunterparker99 @PopC_Theology This kid is too far into Euro Snobbery ideology to realize how foolish his arguments sound. Folks like him move with what he thinks the popular opinion is(group think) Folks who know follow MLS know it now sends the 2nd most players to Europe behind Brasil. But its trash right🙄

This is a convo US Soccer Twitter isn't mature enough to have because majority of the loudest mouths/accounts only want to deal in absolutes hot takes engagement. Critical thoughtful thinking doesn't get engagement.

@PopC_Theology @EdwinGames4 YOU have missed the point. The rest of the world, as well as MLS, knows that getting starting minutes is better than riding the bench. MLS helps players who aren’t ready for squad rotation in the top 5-7 leagues by getting them starting professional minutes at home.

@EdwinGames4 MLS academies can help already talented kids but MLS as a league can't. MLS academies can help launch really talented kids but as a whole can't build their own league. Yes MLS is part of the problem not the solution.

FOOTBALL is life 🇺🇸🇦🇷
@brianmichaelf He’s quite simply bad. Who cares if he’s better than other bad players. Doesn’t scan, doesn’t anticipate, doesn’t cycle quickly or effectively, limited passing range despite this obsession w his set pieces 😭 Oh and his touch is clearly an MLS touch

Brilliantly written. MLS has fingerprints ALL OVER this World Cup, not just for the USMNT. It’s set in the mold of the Belgian Pro League or Eredivisie. It might always be, and that’s okay! MLS may not be where our *best* players should play, but don’t you dare disregard it.
