Tough crowd! I’m just happy with any little drop of not slop.
“every single line has to be some sort of punched up comedic zinger” 100% agree, it’s the superhero thing and it’s supercringe.
My outlook on all this changed a bit after watching a recent Ben Affleck and Matt Damon pod. I realized I was hating on the player instead hating on the game - The creators of these movies often know and agree with you and etc but they can’t not respond to what the market wants, and only a few directors are allowed to take risks with capital of this magnitude.
So basically you end up with low risk variations of the same formula that is (tragically) known to print money. I’m sure you’d enjoy something more technical hard sci-fi. There are dozens of us. My baseline for sci-fi is “Spiderman 10” so I’m overcome with joy to get anything even slightly better.

project hail mary was unfortunately a middling adaptation of a good book. the script has the unfortunate affect of “language model populism” - where every single line has to be some sort of punched up comedic zinger yet still unremarkable.
visuals were uninspired and trite and more or less identical to other space movies. everything good about the film comes from the wonderful world scaffolding of the book and the hard science fiction of it all that lets you suspend disbelief on the alien rocky
the movie doesn’t really try to get into the xenolinguistic stuff even at the depth the book tries (someone called it “arrival for idiots” which unfortunately hit )
the thing that elevated the book is the commitment to a hard science fiction engineeringporn fiction at a level nobody else is able to write. the direction of the movie doesn’t really convey the same feeling successfully, and you’re left with flat characters, an alien that is more human than several humans i know, and a marvel populism
gosling and the german woman are great as actors, but this movie will not be remembered in a year. it is disappointing to see people do so little with a quarter billion, insane acting talent, and incredible source IP

@elonmusk Can we get more affordable aviation plans for general aviation use? $250 per month for 20 GB prevents many from being able to afford Starlink in GA aircraft. At least remove the recently added speed limit for standby mode so it can be used for emergency messaging above 100mph.

In fact, remove it from Android too.
Even modern Android versions don’t need you to keep clearing up all the apps now. It reduces battery life and has no advantage whatsoever.

Silver looks very nice, but the white keyboard is gonna get lovely finger patina

@Brand0n @NestorLRamos I think the textile seats look a lot better, but I would miss ventilated seats. I felt like the ventilated seat fans were too weak in CT anyways though. I’ve been hoping they’d release white seats since the beginning.

Why would the Cybertruck dual-motor AWD price go down in 10 days? Everyone who just ordered one for $60k would just cancel their order, eat the $250 order fee, and reorder it at the lower price.
It's almost certainly a price increase that's coming. To what extent will depend on how many people order it within this 10 day period.

Still love mine as well. I use it quite often. So nice to not be constrained by a rectangular screen and have the freedom to put your content anywhere at any size. I also have better posture when using it compared to an iPad, laptop, or phone. I look forward to it being lighter and cheaper in the future, but I appreciate what it is now.

The Vision Pro was a gigantic failure and it was clear from the outset. Whoever guided this device didn't understand that the entire point of holographic technology is to enable creation, physically building things or visualising things you are about to build. Not watching Netflix with a computer strapped to your face or conducting an awkward virtual meeting. I have worked with holographic projection without passthrough since 2019. I still use the Hololens 2 for sculpture upscaling/iteration and client meetings because nothing else gives you holograms truly anchored in space with only glass in front of your eyes. A tool ahead of its time. To companies like Meta, Google, Apple building the next holographic glasses: find engineers, architects, sculptors. Push limits. Stop building for the slop default - aim high, set a visionary standard.

@itsclivetime @elonmusk The Iridium constellation of satellites used to make extremely bright “iridium flares” when the sun reflected from them just right. I used to point them out to people right before they’d occur. I miss those days.
