On this poignant day, I joined hearts with the Sikh community and fellow Canadians at the military gravesite of Private Buckam Singh in Kitchener. His story, a testament to the courage and spirit of the Sikh soldiers in the World Wars. #SikhRemembranceDay #CanadianHistory

Today we gathered at Mount Hope Cemetery by the gravesite of Private Buckam Singh, the only military grave in Canada of a Canadian Sikh soldier from the World Wars. They fought for us. May we never forget that. #LestWeForget

Private Buckam Singh immigrated to Canada and then raised his hand to serve his new country in the First World War. Thanks to historian Sandeep Singh Brar, his story is now a source of inspiration for many Canadians. We gathered today in Cambridge to pay tribute to Private Singh.

It was a privilege to honour the memory of Pte. Buckam Singh with Minister Anand. Pte. Singh was 1 of 9 Sikhs permitted to serve in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WWI. He is an example of courage and commitment to Canada and serves as an inspiration to us all.

April is Sikh Heritage Month. Since the FWW, Sikh Canadians in uniform have defended our nation’s freedom. We celebrate the Sikh community and the numerous contributions and sacrifices they’ve made to help make Canada a better place. #CanadaRemembers 📸: @SikhMuseum

My colleagues, @AnitaAnandMP & I paid our respects to Pte. Bukkan Singh who is buried in Kitchener's Mount Hope Cemetery. This is the only military grave in Canada of a Sikh soldier who fought in the World Wars & Singh was one of the first Sikh Canadian soldiers to fight in WW1.
