like there is simply zero reason for a VC to ever fund a startup rather than put that same capital towards GPU time to just... build that same startup. and come up with ideas for said startup. and there's not really a reason for LPs to invest in the VC in the first place to let them make the investing decisions rather than... also just building the companies directly, with zero personal effort to themselves. and really there's not any reason for the owners of the models and GPUs to rent them out to others rather than just... directly utilizing them to produce whatever is maximally valuable. and breaking any of those assumptions requires us to stabilize at a point where humans in fact do perform some intellectual labor better or make decisions better than AI

i've said this many times, but to me it seems like a very strange fantasy to imagine we reach and stabilize at precisely a level of AGI that allows anything like human "class divides" to exist. why would "cognitive agency" or "focus" matter in the slightest in the face of RSI?

A lot of folks talk about "escaping the permanent underclass". If AGI pans out, the future class divide won't be based on wealth, but on cognitive agency. There will be a "focus class" (those who control their attention and actually do things) and a "slop class" (those whose reward loops are fully RL-managed by AI)
