When India tours Australia, it’s like portal doors open to an India that is usually restricted to the western suburbs of Melbourne and Sydney. The dhols come out, the bright pugris and Nehru jackets and the kurta pyjamas and the occasional sari does not seem out of place. This tour, cricket has put Hindi in the legacy newspapers – on the front cover, no less. Hands up if you’ve made keepsakes of THOSE front pages in Hindi and Punjabi only days ago! Defeating cancer is something we all must work together to achieve. So today we’re announcing a comprehensive plan to eliminate cervical cancer in the Indo-Pacific, the Cancer Moonshot initiative, with our partners in the Quad.  Because in our nations, as in every part of the world - cancer casts its shadow on the lives of our citizens and our loved ones. Australia has led the way in developing the life-saving HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, and we’re on track to eliminate it at home. But cervical cancer continues to take the lives of too many women, with women in the Pacific dying of the disease at up to 13 times the rate of women in Australia. It’s not good enough, and we must take action. I thank my friends in the Quad for their partnership on this important fight.
