Remembering our Hero Capt Tushar Mahajan Shaurya Chakra (P) 9 Para SF on his birth anniversary today. Tushar was born this day 1989 in Udhampur. His father, Mr. Devraj Gupta was a well known educationist & his mother Asha Devi, was herself a working professional. He did his schooling from Little Flower Convent school till class VII & later from Happy Model Higher Secondary School. His parents wanted him to become an engineer, but he was stubborn about joining the Indian Army. In fact, he filled the forms for NDA entrance on his own, just with the knowledge of his mother. Soon he was in NDA & subsequently in the IMA. He became part of 9 PARA after the successful completion of the extremely tough probation. As a special forces officer, he was part of many covert missions as well as counter insurgency operations. In February 2016, militants attacked a CRPF convoy on the Jammu Srinagar Highway. Two CRPF soldiers & a civilian were killed in this attack. Soon after, instead of fleeing or heading to a safe shelter, they moved to the nearby Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) building in Pampore. There were more than 120 people in this building at that time. This was a building with more than a dozen rooms. Since there was no clarity on the number of terrorists hidden inside, the area was cordoned and a firefight ensued. As one of the teams of Special Forces’ Capt. Tushar Mahajan led his men to eliminate the terrorists. As the terrorists were holed up in the building along with other civilians, the option of blowing the building wasn’t available. They had to move from room to room, looking for terrorists and engaging them. The militants were armed with automatic weapons and grenades. In the firefight, Capt. Tushar got hit by 4 bullets and was shifted to 92 Base hospital. He finally succumbed to his injuries. Eventually, in a coordinated assault, all the militants were successfully eliminated. According to his mother, in his own words he had once said that room intervention invariably means 100% fatality and yet when the moment arrived, he led his men, without battling an eyelid. He was keen on joining the Army in order to fight terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir and true to that he made the supreme sacrifice at a young age of 26, for the said purpose. Capt Tushar Mahajan was honored with Shaurya Chakra for his exceptional bravery and supreme sacrifice. A Real Hero, born in a small city of Jammu and Kashmir, who became a National Hero will always be remembered for his bravery, humility and simplicity. Happy Birthday Tushar bhai💐.
