Most basic examples are even food/convenience store businesses struggling to make ends meet (buying a small business is like buying a job). With people left with little to no disposable incomes how do even businesses thrive? Let alone the mid/large businesses which also struggle with no flowing capital.

@internetvin 💯💯Canada needs to revive tech and capital flows to solve this. Literally no other way out of this.

I’m at a point in my career where my skills are mostly unaffordable in Canada. I’m in my creative prime. I’m losing out on millions of dollars by staying in Toronto. Even if I stay here, there’s no one here to pay me. I have to be in and out. Spending time in SF, NYC, unavoidable

@elonmusk Thinking of which I think it'd be an amazing idea if there was sort of an add-in/feature where u could see nice succinct chronological graph/timeline of how the chat's evolved, sometimes this be very helpful with existing branching feature.

@elonmusk It gives tooo lengthy of responses everytime EVEN if I explicitly prompt so. Surprising Grok itself is crazy opposite (even compared to other models). It thinks, searches, reasons and answers very very shortly (and others cant do this even when i explicitly prompt so)🤣🤣

The biggest challenge I’ve noticed running @akatoshouse is that many Waterloo people have imposter syndrome and are consequently way too humble, because of fear of attracting LARPing comments. For example, she’ll never tell you this, but @maiphobe presented 4 papers at NeurIPS… before finishing undergrad. He doesn’t ever mention it, but @RadElGharbi has been accepted to frontier research at both Stanford and Harvard. There are multiple people I know who chose Waterloo over Princeton or Stanford, because they couldn’t afford to pay (all 1st/2nd years) Waterloo has the Silicon Valley problem, but without the money. You never feel good enough, because you see ahead of you. But you also can’t be too public, because people say you larp. They then pause or abandon their work because there’s no future, and go on working at top SF/NY startups to pay bills because they come from working or middle class families and need to finish paying student loans. And to be honest, if you’re in Canada, you have never seen the best ones. Founder wise, in just 6 months Akatos alone saw 5 student/dropout teams in YC, 9 total teams who went to SF. Also there are incredible engineering dropouts at Deepmind, Neuralink, Cursor, xAI, Endex, Thoughtful Labs, and so many other frontier AI companies working on literal world-leading products, who will 100% become founders later on too. Sorry for the long response, but Canada genuinely doesn’t know what it’s missing in Waterloo. The school doesn’t know, the startup ecosystem doesn’t know, there is literally only 1 other person who knows. Nobody believes in the Waterloo guys, not even themselves. But it’s time for them to be loud and for the world to know, the quality bar is way above anywhere else in the world.

Not all of Waterloo, but a very visible portion seems more focused on clout than technical excellence lately. Only @UofT and @McGill can save us.

Hey @PalmerLuckey want to know where the real engineers in North America are? Waterloo, Canada. In the @akatoshouse community, there’s a guy who built a transformers model from scratch just by reading the paper. It took over a year and he literally rediscovered the gradient vanishing problem from first principles, amongst other things There’s another guy, a chemical engineer with zero background in hardware or chip design, who learned to code then meticulously researched and wrote a paper on building a next-gen TSMC from scratch (releasing Tuesday) And a 3rd guy who is designing and engineering autonomous construction fleets from our basement People in this city understand how to make real things. Come take a look someday 🫡

Excited to share: After strong feedback from @viamrobotics , I just published two native Viam modules! ezrobotix:abb — ABB IRC5/OmniCore via RWS REST ezrobotix:fanuc — FANUC R-30iA/B via FTP Plug-and-play backups, file browsing, logs & more. Free in Viam registry. Feedback welcome! 🔗 Fleet Management: github.com/mpatel1962/fle… 🔗 ABB: app.viam.com/module/ezrobot… 🔗 FANUC: app.viam.com/module/ezrobot… #Robotics #IndustrialAutomation #Viam #OpenSource

Awesome 👏 Any interest in packaging these ABB/FANUC integrations as modules that other community members could easily add to their build? It would allow folks to use your logic as a standardized resource alongside our Viam Vision/ML services while keeping that local-first execution you’ve built. Would be great to help you get this in front of more engineers.

Excited to finally open-source my Fleet Management project! 🚀 A lightweight, self-hosted web app for mixed industrial robot fleets (ABB IRC5/OmniCore + FANUC R-30iB). ✅ Automated & manual backups ✅ Browse controller files ✅ Event logs & trends ✅ Golden-template deployments ✅ Full Git version history 100% local — no cloud. Python/FastAPI backend + React/TypeScript frontend. Works as Windows service or on Linux. Repo is cleaned up and live: github.com/mpatel1962/fle… Would love your feedback, ideas, and contributions! 🤖 #OpenSource #IndustrialAutomation #Robotics #ABB #FANUC #Python #React

Been Grokking, Clauding and Codexing (lol) on my Factory Copilot product- I wish I could somehow share each of the full threads to show how incredibly important it is to work with multiple systems. Just within the same threads (I had Claude and Codex threads on bit longer): 1. While working on a comprehensive upgrade Claude laid out the architecture but Codex helped me refine it. Even during each execution Phases, Codex pointed out nuances which Claude concurred and corrected to complete a 5 Phase update. 2. Then introduced Grok to the mix for another fundamental architectural change, did much better at identifying couple problems (ofcourse didn't have full context on the earlier design choices). ChatGPT concurred and so did Claude. Codex made the fix (both the others verified) 3. I still required a particular feature (was trying to handle edge-case)- I pointed it out to Codex and had fed its feedback to Grok- it concurred and provided its feedback. Fed it back to Codex for final draft. Fed the final draft to Claude and it rejected it outright and also pointing to a previous commit. Not only that, it gave a very unique way out to ship the feature I was looking to build (Ofcourse Grok and Codex agreed)

@noor36758 Precisely the reason Indian tech, brands and products don't do as well as other counterparts globally. While US tech is ruthless in customer satisfaction, Indian tech-products are deeply utilitarian. It wins on practicality but not outside of it.

🚨 BIG TRADE LOADING 🚨 The tension between Mumbai Indians and Hardik Pandya is becoming hard to ignore: • MI stopped using "Captain" for Hardik after the Chepauk game. • Zero net practice footage of him on MI's official handles. • Hardik is posting his own training clips without tagging MI. Something definitely feels off behind the scenes. MI could trade Hardik Pandya for Ayush Mhatre and Anshul Kamboj. 🤯
