should i publish this? basically i used old-style statistics (spectral analysis) to figure out the latent space of a bunch of recipes. Analyzed about 180k recipes and it lets you drill into cuisines and/or features. Also thinking of a seasoning directory to tell you what flavors pair well.

@joshu I think you either have to put a bunch of 221-2411’s on a rail, use the “mounting carrier” (up to 5), or go with a different brand that interlocks

1.29% similarity on JPlag is a strong data point, but the real problem isn't the output, it's the process. Blanchard was the maintainer for a decade. In traditional clean room methodology, he'd be disqualified from writing the replacement entirely. Having Claude do the typing doesn't fix that. His knowledge of the architecture, the edge cases, the design tradeoffs, all of that leaks into prompts whether you intend it or not.

The chardet open source library relicensed from LGPL to MIT two days ago thanks to a Claude Code assisted "clean room" rewrite - but original author Mark Pilgrim is disputing that the way this was done justifies the change in license - my notes here: simonwillison.net/2026/Mar/5/cha…

@davkean Jeez David, that was a piss poor spec for XP era machines that were expected to compile code. We had similar specs back in W95 days.

We were running single core machines at 1.2 GHz, 64 *MB* RAM and spinning rust disks with average seek exceeding 10ms, that video was not our experience.

am I going crazy or can you just not buy a bunch of gears and related moving parts from Lego technic? There are cars you can buy, you can buy an individual motor, but what if you just want belts and gears to teach your child about those?
