NEWS: San Jose State G Colby Garland is set to visit Memphis on Friday, per source. Garland completed a zoom call with Memphis staff last week and will visit Creighton tomorrow. Averaged 20.3 PPG 4.6 AST and 3.3 REB on very efficient 49/37/85 shooting splits. Big time news for Memphis as they look to make a splash in the portal with one of their priority targets.

USF had many large donors and are constantly top of the conference in funding across all sports and academics

BREAKING: Memphis lands a commitment from Briacrest HS 2026 4⭐️ wing/F Fred Smith Jr.
Fred joins fellow 4⭐️ Cello Jackson as the two Memphis commits in the 2026 class.
Smith Jr. is an interesting scout. Has good handle + ball skills at his size, but lacks lateral quickness and outside shooting. Is limited size-wise in the paint but is a physical scorer at the rim. It’ll be interesting to see what position he plays and how his game translates in college.
I see him more as an undersized 4 in college.

2026 4⭐️ 6’6” Fred Smith Jr. (@FredSmithJR) had a good showing this AAU season playing for @P7Elite. The Memphis native is scheduled to visit Memphis on September 19th when Memphis FB takes on Arkansas at home. Smith Jr. excelled at the rim this season (1.38 PPS + 69.1% FG), while also showing off an improved handle + confidence in his shot creation.

NEWS: Memphis HC Penny Hardaway is targeting current Alabama State HC Tony Madlock to be his associate head coach, per sources.
Madlock - who already spent three years on Penny’s staff as an assistant - led ASU to their first ever NCAA tournament win in 2024-25.
Known as a bulldog, Madlock has legit head coaching experience under his belt + Penny knows he can trust him, which makes him an attractive hire for Penny. Fits the mold of what you every HC wants at the associate head coaching spot.
Nothing is finalized yet, but a deal could come together soon.

Additionally, Hardaway is expected to clean slate with his assistant staff before the start of portal season, source adds. Several candidates have already been contacted. In regards to Penny’s future, source cites that the administration were concerned about the “politics” and “financials” of firing Penny.
