NEWS: San Jose State G Colby Garland has cancelled his Memphis visit that was rescheduled to this Saturday, per source. He will instead be visiting Georgia Tech. Garland is still considering Memphis, but it’s a significant development in his recruitment for one of the best guards in the portal.



NEWS: San Jose State G Colby Garland is set to visit Memphis on Friday, per source. Garland completed a zoom call with Memphis staff last week and will visit Creighton tomorrow. Averaged 20.3 PPG 4.6 AST and 3.3 REB on very efficient 49/37/85 shooting splits. Big time news for Memphis as they look to make a splash in the portal with one of their priority targets.





2026 4⭐️ 6’6” Fred Smith Jr. (@FredSmithJR) had a good showing this AAU season playing for @P7Elite. The Memphis native is scheduled to visit Memphis on September 19th when Memphis FB takes on Arkansas at home. Smith Jr. excelled at the rim this season (1.38 PPS + 69.1% FG), while also showing off an improved handle + confidence in his shot creation.

NEWS: Memphis Assistant Jermaine “Freaky JJ” Johnson has been FIRED, as expected. Mike Davis and Roy Rogers were also fired. There were no options for them to return, despite what was previously reported. Source adds that a GM is expected to be hired this week. Several candidates have been contacted, but one is a clear leader in the running.

NEWS: The expectation is that Memphis HC Penny Hardaway returns for his ninth season as head coach, per source. Additionally, Hardaway is expected to clean slate with his assistant staff before the start of portal season, source adds. Several candidates have already been contacted. In regards to Penny’s future, source cites that the administration were concerned about the “politics” and “financials” of firing Penny. For context, Memphis would have to pay a $6 million buyout + potential buyout for new coach + increase financial commitment to program.

It’s official from Friarland. Kim English is out. As I said a week or so ago, South Florida’s Bryan Hodgson is the perfect fit for the Providence job. And per sources, Hodgson is the leader in the clubhouse. However, he has multiple options.
