xLight's pitch to TSMC: we build the free-electron-laser next to your fab, eat the capex, and bill you per photon. Light as a utility. Keep ASML's scanner, drop their LPP light source. Start at 13.5nm, upsell 1nm later. A different way to attack the monopoly.

Compute at Sea @FrancoisChauba1 AI is running out of compute, and data centers are running out of electricity and land. One possible solution is to move compute offshore. The ocean offers abundant space, sunlight, and natural cooling, opening the door to fleets of modular data centers operating together as a global cloud.

We’ve raised over $1 billion towards our work to build the world’s first million-qubit scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers. We are thrilled to have @BlackRock, @Temasek, and @BaillieGifford lead this round now valuing the company at $7 billion and welcome @Macquarie Capital, @RibbitCapital, NVentures (@nvidia's venture arm), Adage Capital Management, @TypeOneVC, Counterpoint Global (@MorganStanley), @1789Capital, and SVentures (@SentinelOne). The round also included participation from existing investors including @blackbirdvc, @ThirdPointLLC, and @TRowePrice Associates, Inc.

Excited to share the launch of Snowcap Compute, a company building the first commercially viable superconducting compute platform, backed by a $23M seed round led by @Playground_VC. This marks my first public investment as General Partner at Playground, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to support a team that’s redefining the performance frontier for computing – classical, AI and quantum – the trinity of computing will all benefit from superconducting and Snowcap! Snowcap is building the foundation for the post-CMOS era, one that will demand dramatic leaps in performance and power efficiency for AI, HPC, and quantum-classical hybrid workloads. This is deep tech at its finest. Honored to join the board and support Mike Lafferty, Anna Herr, Quentin Herr, and the incredible Snowcap team. reuters.com/business/snowc…

More exciting news: I've joined @Playground_VC as a General Partner. I've long been passionate about investing in deep and long technologies like #quantum, #photonics and #semiconductors - exactly what Playground is doing with companies like xLight, @PsiQuantum and @StrandTx. I’m also a big believer in working alongside founders and technologists, ensuring they have the resources, expertise and support they need to push boundaries. Joining Playground allows me to combine these two principles and help others tackle tough challenges. Read more here – linkedin.com/posts/patgelsi…

@Lons @twistartups @Jason Overdraft and late fee bank charges but now on food delivery, just what the world needs. Maybe solve food security instead. Sigh.

@iamrahulmeka @twistartups @Jason I mean, I feel like Klarna is HOPING that people will miss those interest-free payments, so they can start charging them interest on their burritos. That's gotta be the plan.

@twistartups @Jason @Lons Presumably, customers are going to use the pay in 4 option - basically amortizing monthly food delivery spend over 4 months. I just don’t think this is going to be material (people needing this option won’t prefer food delivery and existing users aren’t going to 4x their orders)

@iamrahulmeka @Jason @Lons Yeah, when used responsibly, BNPL is not really so different from any other form of credit. This was my Klarna concern... 30% is... a BIT high... Not really worth it for food delivery.

@jxmnop You’re severely underestimating the networking and scaling that gets enabled with said networking. It’s not about a single node performance but that a group of nodes behave as one big node.

a short bear case for nvidia > NVIDIA’s main advantage is a software one (CUDA), not a hardware one (AMD has ~equally good GPU hardware) > thanks to the rise of RL, LLM-based reasoning in auto-verified environments is really good now > CUDA is essentially a layer of C code that runs python ML code on GPU > this entails writing code that is fast (effectively utilizes the GPU) and correct (returns the right outputs) > both speed and correctness are automatically verifiable > people could (and will) use reinforcement learning to fine-tune LLMs to write these GPU kernels > it’s entirely plausible that an incumbent could use AI to write CUDA > it’s entirely plausible that an incumbent could use AI to write something better than CUDA > nvidia has no moat
