@chamath Utilities are buying power for ~$0.01-0.03/kWh and I’m paying SDGE ~$0.55/kWh. I have solar, as do many in San Diego, but my connection fee keeps going up and it’s illegal to go off-grid.

A reminder that total consumer electricity costs are (1) the cost to make it and (2) the cost to transmit and distribute it. Ok I resisted weighing in to the H-1B visa debate but I can't help myself because the current framing IS SO DUMB and I NEED TO CORRECT THINGS. People are debating whether we should allow highly skilled workers into the U.S. or prioritize hiring American workers only. But this misses a critical point (which is very obvious to anyone who runs a business): if American companies can’t bring the talent they need into the country, they’ll simply hire or contract that talent offshore. In an increasingly global economy, restricting visas doesn’t protect American jobs—it just pushes innovation and opportunities outside our borders. So duh, of course we should allow highly skilled, pro-American values folks to come into the country if companies want to sponsor them. This is exactly how we create more value inside the country and ultimately *more* American jobs.
