If you take a look at how long it took for the pioneer colonists from arriving on what is Zimbabwe today, when it was still bush and jungle, with wild animals and untamed terrain, to building what is Harare today, or building Mutare, the Christmas Pass, Bulawayo, Vic Falls, that took strategic planning, it took meticulous actions, purposeful actions, to get this country to where it was. In 1980, we took over. It was a very, very hard country to fuck up. The labour used was US. Forced to build for the white mans pleasure. We assimilated the skills. We were the slave labourers on the farms. Getting slave wages from The mines. The cities. It was a very, very hard infrastructure to destroy. In fact, it was easier to build on top of the great work that came before. But can you imagine that it took us less than 30 years to make this country an absolute shithole? MaZhanje peels all over the roads, plastic and broken bottles. Banana peels. Broken windows, 70 paint companies but we basically can’t paint our mother’s gates. Urinating and defecating in public parks, spaces and alleys. Roads in disrepair. 90% of all long term electrical outages are due to theft and vandalism. We hate paying taxes. We don’t pay rates. We elect goat herders to lead our richest cities coz they know slogans and how to praise leaders. Young people who have never seen a working water tap chant unconstitutional 2030 rhetoric using smart phones on foreign platforms to keep leaders who have NEVER cared about them. We are cursed. When I challenge MY people, I’m called a “self Hater”. Uncle Ruckus. I refuse to join the “smelling our own farts” of how literate and hard working we are, when we have so much we must Acknowledge, Reform and rebuild. Others are planing to go to Mars and yet we can’t put working toilets for our grandmothers. Don’t cheer when I gun at council and government , tehn get mad when I ask all of us to also take some fucking responsibility. When the slave masters gave us horrible wages, they used to make us dance to receive them. Hence we call it “Kutambira”. We are too playful. We must do better. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
