It’s interesting that when Black and racialized women and girls are the target demographic, something is said about their gender; it is thought to have some significance and say something about female vulnerability. When Black and racialized men and boys are victims, their gender is thought to be of no interest; their experience doesn’t communicate anything about male vulnerability. So you can degender the victims in this tweet by calling them “kids” and it isn’t thought to be a big deal.
