Horrible experience with @Delta this weekend. Flight DL832, delayed 13 hours first for weather then they wouldn't say why. Came back to the airport this morning to find they'd canceled the flight without notice and even desk agents didn't know what happened.

Today is publication day for something we’ve been working on for the last 2+ years. Couldn’t have been done with all our collaborators, and leadership from Dan and Sydney. Seeing it in Nature is a fantastic culmination. nature.com/articles/s4158…

@xkcd I won a statewide science fair in high school by showing a system like that can still transmit information. LED for rapid on/off, FM had the least signal degradation.

@bbernatek the tweet wasn’t aimed at Biden. I saw what he said. He got carried away. They clarified. Whatever. But there are a lot of people who ARE demanding this. And that’s nuts. It will certainly be hard to have normal relations with him in power. But making this policy is disastrous.

*headscratch* Is this the sort of chart that the CDC is using to determine the number of comorbidities? Because it’s got stuff on there like broken toes, flatulence, and hiccups. …someone tell me this is not actually the kind of chart they’re using. cdc.gov/nchs/data/heal…

@WApplefeld Upstream of the catheter perhaps. But around the catheter lower cross-sectional area for blood flow would increase velocity, and Bernoulli's principle should decrease pressure.

Wondering if the mechanism of radial artery spasm during A line is the Baylis effect. In that when you shove a catheter into the radial artery, you locally increase intraluminal pressure which triggers reflex vasoconstriction

@grrlpowercomic "Fusiform" (spindle shaped, tapering at both ends) would be pretty close to what you're looking for.

Sometimes I'm glad English has so many words that I can just thesaurus up a way to phrase something differently, then there are days where I'm like, what do you mean there's no word to describe a double-sided cone? There's a word for the shape of a donut, but not this.

@NicoleHerbst2 Sounds legit. I figured I was set in ID when predictive text started finishing "you can" with "stop vancomycin".

Spooky name/icon change for Halloween, because what's really scary is not following a lung protective strategy.

@ZachWeiner That sounds like a validated clinical assessment like the MMPI, which they’ve re-purposed. Original design would be to capture full spectrum of psychiatric conditions, hence wide range of questions.

So, for the space book, I'm reading about Antarctic psychological stuff. One guy describes laughing about a psych test which has a yes/no section, including "Voices tell me to hurt people." Why do such questions go in? Weed out obvious people or are they testing something else?

“Why do you want to be a doctor?” I answer without hesitation, “I want to help people.” “There are many ways to help people.” “I want to save lives.” “There are many ways to do that too. So I’ll ask you again, why do you want to be a doctor?” “Because I believe in it.” 1/

@NicoleHerbst2 ID. 😁 But yes, the default assumption that CCM inevitably leads to burnout is not a healthy place for the field.

Is there salt in blood? I'm not talking about the amount of sodium in your diet or anything to do with blood pressure. I mean if you exsanguinated a blue whale and boiled/centrifuged it down to a bunch of solids, would you get a tablespoon of salt out of it? Asking for a friend.
