@Noahpinion The transformation started well before 2013. It might have been more subtle but I watched the transformation/co-opting/contortion of what was a benign and forward-thinking term “progressive” begin toward the end of the W. Bush years.

The transformation of liberals into "progressives" since 2013 has seriously been the worst thing to happen to American culture in my lifetime. Just absolutely gutted so much of what was good about this country. End of a golden age.

Watched The Thomas Crown Affair, the remake with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, last night for the first time in years and it felt like a transmission from an alien planet. 10/10.

A boss once told me, "You will never know who you work for." I think about that statement regularly. What he meant was that you never really know how high up the ladder your work goes. You work for a company, that company has investors, those investors have interests, and those interests have interests above them. The chain doesn't end where you think it does. This piece captures that perfectly. The MIT researchers who built open financial infrastructure were simultaneously building Project Hamilton for the Fed. Gary Gensler wasn't protecting investors from crypto fraud, he was crowding out the competition. The Waddesdon forums knew democratic legislation was the proper route and proceeded through regulation anyway. Nobody at any level of this needed to know the full picture. They just needed to play their part. The distance between what people believe they're building in crypto and what they are actually clearing the path for is vast, and I think most of them will never know.
