The 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Sarah Mullally DBE, has pledged a ‘ministry of hospitality’ in a ‘fractured world’, following her Confirmation of Election service on 28 January 2026. Reflecting on the service she said: 'In this country and around the world, Anglican churches bring healing and hope to their communities. With God’s help, I will seek to guide Christ’s flock with calmness, consistency and compassion. ‘These are times of division and uncertainty for our fractured world. I pray that we will offer space to break bread together and discover what we have in common – and I pledge myself to this ministry of hospitality. ‘I am committed to equipping the Church to be a kind and safe place that cares for everyone, especially those who are vulnerable, as we rise to the challenge of God’s call to justice, equity, peace and the care of creation.’ Read more about the new Archbishop of Canterbury’s hopes for ministry and reflections on yesterday's ceremony at: bit.ly/3MaZxfy #Anglicans @ArchbishopSarah

The 2025 meeting of the Inter Anglican Standing Commission on Unity, Faith and Order (IASCUFO) took place in Rome from 7 to 11 December. The Communiqué is now available: bit.ly/4rQbOpA During the week, the Commission reviewed responses to the Nairobi-Cairo Proposals which will be discussed at ACC-19 in Belfast in 2026. The proposals arose from work commissioned by ACC-18 in 2023. Updates were given on various ecumenical dialogues and relationships over the past year. IASCUFO attended a Papal audience and episcopal members were individually introduced to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. Members were also received at the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity by His Eminence Cardinal Kurt Koch and members of the Dicastery. Meetings were also held at the Anglican Centre in Rome, supported by Bishop Anthony Ball, Director of the Centre and Representative of the Archbishop of Canterbury to the Holy See. The Primate of Brazil and Bishop of the Amazon, the Most Revd Marinez Bassotto, is in the United Kingdom this week (20-24 October), advocating for environmental justice and the importance of indigenous voices being central to this November's COP30 (Conference of the Parties). The meetings are all part of Archbishop Marinez's preparations for COP30, which will take place in Belém in the Brazilian Amazon from 10-21 November. Archbishop Marinez is due to attend parts of the COP30 discussions to advocate for climate justice. She will also play a major role in the COP30 People’s Summit, hosting a ‘Tapiri’ at the Catedral Anglicana de Santa Maria, with other ecumenical and inter faith leaders. Speaking about the importance of hearing indigenous voices at COP30, Archbishop Marinez said: ‘I hope that their participation will be central and impactful. Their voices need to be at the centre of discussions, because they are the ones who hold the ancestral and practical knowledge necessary for preservation. Climate justice will only be achieved when the territorial and cultural rights of these communities are fully recognised and respected. We want their voices to influence the negotiations, because their influence is the key to ensuring that the commitments made at the Summit are translated into concrete, effective and fair action.’ Read more on Anglican News: bit.ly/43uGlP8 #Anglicans #COP30 @ieabrasil

The Rt Revd Dr Jo Wells, Deputy Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, visited the Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil (Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil or IEAB) to celebrate the 135th Anniversary of the church and the 40th anniversary of women’s ordination in the province. Bishop Jo Wells attended the National Meeting of Ordained Women in Brazil, titled “Women Weaving Justice”, meeting with female clergy, laity, bishops and the Primate of the province. She also attended a service at the Anglican National Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Porto Alegre to commemorate both the 135th anniversary of the Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil and the 40th anniversary of Female Ordination in the region. Speaking about her visit, the Rt Revd Dr Jo Wells said, “I have been overjoyed to be part of the province’s celebration of 40 years since the first ordination of women, and in the diocese of Meridional where the very first of those ordinations took place. Over 50 women have gathered from across the country - lay as well as ordained - to recount the history and to consider next steps." The Most Reverend Marinez Bassotto, Primate of the Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil reflected, “The history of women's leadership in the Church is a story of strength, courage, boldness and faith. A story of transformation, movement, action, inclusion, resilience and equity. […] This story began in 1973 and culminated in July 1984 when the General Synod approved female ordination." A delegation from the Anglican Communion is in Rome this weekend to attend the funeral of Pope Francis and represent the condolences of Anglicans around the world. The delegation will be led by an Archbishop from Latin America, the Most Revd Marinez Bassotto, who is the Primate of the Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil and Regional Primate for the Americas. Reflecting on the death of Pope Francis, Archbishop Marinez stated, “It is an honour to give thanks for the amazing life and ministry of Pope Francis, who was the first Latin American Pope. He was a humble servant who embodied a message of peace and love. His example calls Christians to walk together in unity and to serve the poor and marginalised. At his funeral, we bring with us the prayers and tributes of Anglicans across the globe." Archbishop Marinez also serves on the Standing Committee of the Anglican Communion as the regional Primate for the Americas. The five-person Primates’ Standing Committee helps to support the Anglican Communion pastorally and to represent the Communion ecumenically. Archbishop Marinez was elected as Primate of Brazil in 2022, becoming the first woman to hold the position in 132 years of the church in Brazil. She is also the third woman to become a Primate in the global Anglican Communion. Read the full article at: bit.ly/44DQmeo @MarinezBassotto @ieabrasil #PopeFrancis
