Little shocks me today but this has. In 2020, a 20 year old man from Senegal groomed a 14 year old girl on Instagram. He knew she was 14 as she told him. They both lived in Mallorca. He persuaded her to meet him at his apartment. Once there he asked her to take off her clothes. She refused several times and wanted to leave. So he raped her. The girl went straight to the police and reported the assault. The man was arrested and charged. The prosecution were seeking a 9 year prison sentence. Now comes the shocking part. In February 2026, after the man admitted his guilt, he was sentenced to 2 years in prison, suspended for 3 years. So no jail time. Read that again. No jail time. He was forced to pay her Euro 7,500 compensation, as though money could make up for being raped and to have no contact with the victim for 5 years. That is it. For raping a child. Many Spanish people are furious. They call it “pacto de la vergüenza” (pact of shame) and point out that sentences for immigrants are far less than for Spanish born criminals. And girls cannot protect themselves as under Spanish law the name and face of the rapist cannot be revealed. This photo in the court is the only one we have of him.
