Much Ado about Eyo from Iperu For more than two centuries, Eyo festival is known to be synonymous to Lagos but for some obvious reasons many will not allow the people of Eko to "drink water drop cup" by telling us how Eyo was imported from Iperu, Igbogbo or Ibefun. Let us quickly lay bear the claims of Igbogbo and Ibefun . The founder of Igbogbo was called Eyo , with the eulogy ( oriki ) of people of Igbogbo ending as....omo eleyo ,which is in remembrance of their progenitor, having nothing to do with Eyo Masquerade in Lagos . The closest link of Eyo to Ibefun was through Ogunmade, whose father was the then Oba Leke of Ibefun . His mother was a direct daughter of Ejilu - Malaki . After the demise of Oba Leke in Ibefun , with the permission of Elders of Adamu orisha , he staged Eyo festival in Ibefun to honor his late father . The people of Iperu are coming very aggressive since last year to re'- write history, laying claim that Eyo originated from Iperu. Unfortunately, because of the the strong envy many have for indigenes of Lagos , they bother less to verify their claims . The whiole of Iperu was agog yesterday in the celebration of their newly re-ignited Eyo festival, which they claimed originated from Iperu . They did everything to convince the public that indeed Eyo is traditionally theirs and was imported to the people of Eko, centuries ago. Unfortunately, they struggled to create identity for the festival, different from that of Lagos. The interesting part is their historical claim of ownership of Eyo and how they took it to the people of Lagos, told by Prince Taiwo Gbenga Owokalade Esq, the chairman of Eyo Iperu carnival, published in the ThisDay newspaper, on the 20th of April 2026. Below is the excerpt from the Newspaper: “According to oral traditional and spirituality that anchors the Eyo heritage firmly in Iperu-Remo. Eyo also known as Lenifeyo- Ta ni ko fe Ayo. The story begins with Ajagbe, a hunter from Ile- ife , whose journey to Iperu was guided by Ifa divination. His descendants, Lugoke, a revered blacksmith and ifa priest encountered a mythical woman at the Yemogun river. Their union produced Lenifeyo, whose destiny according to ifa was greatness, - condition on his perpetual adornment in white garment l. Lanifeyo's life took a defining turn when his mother returned to her mythical abode, entrusting him with sacred staff known as Opambata before disappearing. This marked the beginning of his journey, eventually leading to Lagos during the reign of Oba Ado in the 17th century. His influence grew rapidly due to his mastery of ifa divination, distinct white attire and poetic incarnation. His performance captivated not only the local population but also foreign visitors including Portuguese traders, one of them gifted him a hat- later evolving into iconic “Akete AGA” associated with eyo masquerade today. Lenifeyo’s performance extended into the royal court where he served as a spiritual confidant to Oba Akinsemoyin. His legacy, however remained deeply tight to iperu where he eventually returned and lived out his final years” The above is the official historical position of the people of iperu being the original owner of Eyo festival and how it was brought to Eko . Unfortunately, this is different from the popular claim that Eyo was brought from Iperu to celebrate the marriage ties between an iIperu princess and Oba Ado. Rebuttals to the historical position of the peope of Iperu. Ponit one : Iperu is over five hundred kilometers from Lagos , not even linked by any river . Yet , the fist place Lenifeyo came was Lagos to start his Ifa divination. Point two : Even from the above account, Lagos was the only place Lenifeyo’s performance that depicts eyo was staged . There is no record of him staging it when he returned to iperu To be continued Dr. Agboola Kotu

@ijambaforiti @HAYZEDProS First sign that the stunt man is a fool was throwing the stone into the water and then turning his back to it. The purpose of tossing a stone is to envision your flight path and understanding the height. Landing on his back just summed up his inexperience.

@realfemiadebayo kudos on the AGESINKOLE 2 movie. I’m presently watching and already intrigued. However, I’d like to say that the sound team didn’t do justice during the conversation between @segunarinzeaina and those people at the beginning. There was no basis to remove the effects of the surrounding, to focus on the dialogue. It made it sound unnatural and too cinematic. But all in all, I’m enjoying it so far

To every Nigerian soldier and every member of our Armed Forces, I want to express my deepest gratitude. The simple fact that I can sit in safety and type these words is because men and women like you stand watch, often in dangerous places, far away from your families, carrying burdens most of us may never fully understand. You endure fear, discomfort, uncertainty and loss so that millions of Nigerians can continue with their daily lives. Too often, your sacrifices are reduced to statistics or passing headlines, but behind every uniform is a human being, a family, a story and a profound commitment to Nigeria. Honestly, if I had my way, I would be serving alongside you. I have always believed that there is no greater honour than wearing the uniform of one’s country and standing in defence of its people, even at the risk of one’s own life. May Nigeria never forget you. May your courage never be taken for granted. May those who have fallen rest in honour, and may those still serving return safely to their loved ones. Thank you for your service. Thank you for your sacrifice. God bless the Nigerian Armed Forces, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 🇳🇬

INEC insists CVR ends today, urges Nigerians to register before deadline The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ends today, Sunday, July 26, urging all eligible Nigerians to register or update their voter details before the deadline. The commission said those yet to register can do so through the CVR portal or at designated INEC state and local government offices. The exercise also covers voter transfers, correction of personal information, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). Despite calls from opposition parties and civil society groups for an extension, INEC has ruled out any further deadline shift, saying it must begin data cleaning, biometric verification, and preparation of the voters’ register ahead of the 2027 general elections. channelstv.com/2026/07/26/ine…

A senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) finance operative, among the 46 terrorists and their family members who voluntarily surrendered to Nigerian troops in recent days
Nigerian Army@HQNigerianArmy

OPERATION HADIN KAI RECORDS SURRENDER OF SENIOR ISWAP FINANCE OPERATIVE AS WAVE OF TERRORIST SURRENDERS GATHERS MOMENTUM Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded another major operational breakthrough with the surrender of a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) finance operative, underscoring the sustained impact of ongoing kinetic and intelligence-driven operations across the North East. The development comes amid a growing wave of terrorist surrenders, with approximately 46 terrorists and their family members voluntarily surrendering to troops in recent days, further highlighting the mounting pressure on terrorist strongholds. The terrorist surrendered to troops of 3 Battalion under 24 Task Force Brigade at about 6:45 a.m. on 25 July 2026 along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route. His decision to lay down his arms follows the recent series of coordinated and decisive land and air offensives conducted by Operation HADIN KAI against terrorist enclaves. Preliminary profiling indicates that the terrorist served as the Chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he was responsible for managing the group’s financial activities and logistics. He surrendered alongside two male children. Items recovered from the terrorist include one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, one motorcycle, and the sum of ₦40,000. The individual is currently undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation to exploit actionable intelligence that will support ongoing operations and facilitate the targeting of remaining terrorist elements across the Theatre. The surrender of such a key finance operative represents another significant setback for ISWAP, reflecting the growing erosion of the group’s command structure, operational capability, and sustainment network under the relentless pressure of Operation HADIN KAI. Coupled with the increasing number of recent surrenders, this development confirms deepening disillusionment within terrorist ranks and points to an accelerating wave of defections from terrorist camps. Operation HADIN KAI remains steadfast in its mission to restore enduring peace, security, and stability across the North East. The Theatre Command therefore calls on all remaining terrorists to take advantage of the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives by laying down their arms before it is too late. The Command also urges members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
