Everyone who intends to join or lead a research group should read the essay by Bruno Lemaitre: An Essay on Science and Narcissism: How do high-ego personalities drive research in life sciences? (Usually available for free download; do a google search)

Super interesting!! As b-hex release is commonly used for measuring mast cell degranulation. What does this mean in case of diseases involving mast cell activation e.g. food allergy? 🤔

In @ScienceMagazine this week, @DjenetBousbaine, @PloeghLab, @ambilate, & al report peptides derived from β-hexosaminidase—a highly conserved enzyme produced by #Bacteroidetes commensals—drives regulatory CD4+CD8αα+ #IEL differentiation in #gut! bit.ly/Sci_abg5645

TLRs never stop teaching us about host-pathogen interactions. Madhani et al reveal a fungal ligand for TLR4 that drives allergic inflammation. Congrats to the authors on this important discovery. @hitenmadhani nature.com/articles/s4158…

We believe that parental leave should be equal for all parents. From January 2022, any Sanofi employee in any country will get a minimum of 14 weeks paid parental leave - that includes birth parents, adoptive parents, and surrogate parents! 🎉

Wow - cancer patients who took certain anti-histamine medications because of allergies responded better to immunotherapy. Turns out histamine binds to macrophage receptors, makes macrophages immunosuppressive, thus inducing T cell dysfunction cell.com/cancer-cell/fu…

A new book by Philipp Dettmer, creator of @Kurz_Gesagt, charts the vast array of different immune cells, what they do, the way they communicate with each other, and what happens when things go wrong. Read the review from @SciMagBooks: fcld.ly/thzqbz1
