Yesterday was really, really good. 🎉 🎉
I’m honored to have received 2 awards:
1. 2026 Outstanding Student Award for PhD in Data Science and Analytics.
2. Computing Day PhD Research Award: 3rd Place.
Education is derived from two Latin verbs, educare and educere.
- Educare means to rear, train, or nourish.
- Educere means to lead out, draw out, or bring forth.
My PhD journey at @kennesawstate has been a combination of educare and educere. I have been thoroughly trained in mathematics, statistics, machine learning, and AI. I have also learned how to write academically at the doctoral level under the supervision of Dr. Gittner and Dr. Matheny in the Data Quality and Survey Methods Lab. I have solved problems and provided data-driven recommendations to companies such as @Delta, @SouthernCompany, and @BCBST.
In all this, it’s been a journey of self-discovery. I’ve had several opportunities to draw out the researcher, mentor, and teacher within me. I’m grateful for my professors and mentors.
I’m grateful to my wife, @Prisca_Omugbe, for your unwavering love and care through the ups and downs of my PhD journey.

Why Kinematics and Dynamics are the Bedrock of Robotics: Welcome to Class
From physics we know that kinematics describes the motion of objects using variables like position, velocity, and acceleration, explicitly ignoring the forces that cause that motion, while dynamics studies forces and their relationship to the motion or equilibrium of bodies.
The rules apply in robotics.
🪧How do you translate a (x, y, z) coordinate in the real world into specific motor degrees? Kinematics provides the solution by giving mathematical relationship between joint angles and spatial coordinates. Precision starts with the geometry. Without solid Inverse Kinematics (IK), a robot is essentially blind to its own configuration.This becomes painfully obvious when a system approaches a singularity, a point where the math breaks down and the robot loses a degree of freedom, leading to unpredictable movements or total mechanical lockup.
🪧Dynamics accounts for mass, inertia, friction, and gravity (bear in mind; a robotic arm moves differently when it’s empty versus when it’s carrying a 5kg load!).
In a static simulation, a robotic arm follows a path perfectly, but in the real world, that same arm carries weight and momentum. If your control system doesn't account for the inertia matrix or the centrifugal and Coriolis forces acting on the links, the motion will be jerky, prone to overshooting targets, or dangerously unstable under varying payloads.
💡High-performance robotics requires a shift from simple position control to dynamic compensation, where the system "understands" the torque required to fight gravity and manage its own acceleration. This synergy is what allows a robot to transition from a rigid machine into a fluid, responsive agent.
✅ In modern development environments like ROS 2, these concepts are the engines running beneath the hood of every navigation stack and motion planner.
✅ If you’re an aspiring robotics engineer, don't run away from the classical mechanics. Embrace it. It forms the core concepts of robotics.
