@BowTiedBull There's a lot of fun and worthwhile stuff I can be doing once the financial side of things is taken care of. For single men this bar is super low. For married fathers the bar is like 4-5x higher.

They all think you hit some magic number $5, $10, $20M and then never work again. Literally don't know anyone like that Exception to rule is some dude sells his company, goes off for a bit. Even then comes back building something else

As a man, you get to take big risks twice. Once when young. Second is when older, bought family a house (transferred to them) + 529's. Then you can go hard again, it won't matter if you "fail," because the family is set. Better odds are to hit it harder in your 20's and 30's.

I've noticed people criticizing Sam Hyde for "no longer being funny". I don't have an opinion on that specifically, but I will say this: Almost all jokers have a strong philosophical streak, which is why they joke around. It helps them untangle the world that they see and experience. The urge to philosophize is also a sign of personal maturation, even though it often does detract from the funny. It's a very natural progression.

@robkhenderson About a thousand former colleagues laid off yesterday kind of would suggest otherwise. None of them ignorant of AI or of the developments in the industry.

“if you are college educated and cannot get a job in 2026, it is your fault. i’m sorry, but it is true. there is a fake news item circulating that the job market is soft and that nobody can find work. the data does not support it.” auren.substack.com/p/if-you-cant-…

Full day on Deepseek 4 Flash $1.35, switching to the free offer Hermes has right now, but honestly I could live with this... If deepseek offered a coding plan I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

@loktar00 It cost me $200 to reclassify 2 million+ html pages and organize all the data this week to make it searchable with v4 flash. I don't think it would have been physically possible beforehand

@usr_bin_roygbiv if we try to set the training goal as "maximize objective truth", that probably works, but that's not the training goal for everyone

@usr_bin_roygbiv I'm not sure that's true. if the idea is memetic it spreads, the features of it being memetic are not necessarily what make it a good idea, unless we just say "whatever idea spreads wins, therefore it was a good idea"

The biggest generation gap right now is people pre-internet associating this sort of thing with being "city people". Guess what happens when everyone on earth is connected to each other. There's 1000x the jobs and 1000x the applicants. The market will naturally become efficient
Roy@usr_bin_roygbiv

people think i'm exaggerating or joking about the quiet quitting/stop showing up thing over putting in two weeks and being polite. no people waste your time and you get severance when you get fired. They can't even be bothered to ask for the laptop back half the time.

@usr_bin_roygbiv open to hearing explanation why but high interconnectedness means that every invasive idea quickly comes in and outcompetes local ones, crushing diversity and making the ecosystem more homogenous
