37 years ago tonight, April 1, 1989, Corey Glover and Living Colour performed “Cult of Personality”(1988) on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The song peaked at #13 on Billboard’s Hot 💯.

@andrew_raeburn Still want it even if fans hate it. Players constantly cheat to win free kicks and get players booked. It works in other sports, so we just need to figure out why it isn't working in Football.
English

VAR isn't fit for purpose. But I'm astonished by the rewriting of history of fans replying to Nick denying calls for help for referees ever being prevalent.
No, they didn't want it like this. But football WAS dominated every week by talk of refereeing "mistakes". Own it.

I feel like I should go to a priest with a confession like this, but I don’t want VAR to go. Football before VAR was dominated by referee gaffes. You lot pleaded for technology. It wasn’t quite the technology you wanted, so you moaned again. Fewer mistakes are made now.

I admit it - I thought VAR would make a positive difference. I was wrong. I think we should scrap it. Not tweak it. Just scrap it. Looks like a lot of you agree.

@MrCDraws @Haggis_UK I dont but having grown up near Chiswick I know it's a nice place. I also had a nice childhood growing up in a more diverse area with a diverse group of friends im still friends with 50 years later!
English

@ilmaestro7 @Haggis_UK Why do you assume a place with hardly any diversity is nicer than a place with loads of it?
English

Eddie Marsan: "I don't want Reform anywhere near govt... as I grew up in the east end when we had the NF & BNP walking down Bethnal Green road... terrorising our Black & Asian neighbours... & it's a load of old crap."
#bbclaurak: & you think that's where we are?

@MrCDraws @Haggis_UK That's his choice, he worked hard and moved to a nicer area. Doesn't mean he's forgotten his roots!
English

@Haggis_UK And then he moved to Chiswick, the fourth least diverse part of london…. Why doesn’t he live in the east end anymore?

@PaulEmbery Kids have plenty more options than we had, so the pub isn't the be all and end all for them simple as that.
English

When I was growing up, pubs would often be rammed until closing time (not so much during the week, but certainly at weekends). The bell for “last orders” would usually spark a rush to the bar. These days, even the most popular pubs seem to start emptying out around 8.00-9.00pm, including on Fridays and Saturdays. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon? Is there a reason for it?
English

@DadRogd @PaulEmbery Disagree, when I was 17 nearly 40 years ago and still living in London I earned £1.46 hour and could get a pint of Lon Pride for 85p. Therefore not quite enough for 2 pints. My 19 year old son earns £10.50 hour and the ave price where we now live is £6 a pint so about the same.
English

@PaulEmbery This has to be a combination of the dire economy (not much disposable income for anyone) and the brutal tax regime making pubs charge high prices for beer.

@CriticalOverlo3 The best season by a country mile, followed by the worst in the series.
English

@TheSecretScout_ Start by looking at the pitch and weather. Our kids don't get to play on carpets like this and also the British obsession of playing eleven a side as early as possible doesn't help!

@ExtremeFootbal4 Best striker of his generation, just a pity he had to retire so young.
