@b_miklasz Why not work Herrera out at first base and have Burleyand Herrera split time between DH and first base? Herrera is not a catcher. It’s not like Burleson as a defensive stud but his bat should play every day. Extend Burley
English

It still would be really cool if Bloom could acquire Jackson Holliday….fits our time line and the lock out of 2027…..14 months younger than Wetherholt and his pops was a Cardinal legend. Let’s make it happen @Cardinals #stlcards
English

@RedbirdFarmhand It seems to me some Memphis and Springfield players will be released soon
English

@b_miklasz Reminds me of Anthony Reyes. Doesn’t sting like Rick Ankiel. That guy was red jacket potential and maybe Cooperstown…..just electric.

The Tink Hence story is one of the most unfortunate in modern Cardinal-prospect history. His natural talent — extraordinary. Injuries pulled him down.
Brandon Kiley@BKSportsTalk
The #STLCards announce they will option Matt Svanson to Triple-A & DFA Tink Hence in order to activate Quinn Mathews for his MLB debut this afternoon.

@ThomasGauvain2 @AugieNash @OnlyCardsFans I’m 50 and a cards fan since ‘85. The answer. Is yes but not as bad because different leagues
English

I was 1-5 years old, so forgive me, but did it feel this helpless with the Yankees in the late 1990s?
@AugieNash @OnlyCardsFans and anyone else who interacts with me and can recall.
English

@RedbirdFarmhand I’m not sure what he has left to prove in Peoria
English

Different level right now

ANOTHER HOMER FOR JACK GUREVITCH!!!!! A 3-RUN SHOT THAT TIES THE GAME!!!
English

@AidanG_Baseball Pallante was at Matthew Liberatore levels last year and turned it around. Promising ‘24, dismal ‘25 and fantastic ‘26. Is it possible that Liberatore could still be developing on a similar trajectory?
English

@ThomasGauvain2 @_nateschwartz I will bet Mcgreevy is in that rotation and a free agent/traded arm we won’t know about. One or more young arm fizzles out and hits the pen and someone isn’t healthy. But we can always dream about prospects
English

@_nateschwartz Our 2028 rotation will be (in no order)
Mathews
Doyle
Clarke
Cjintje (switch, but it counts)
Franklin
Roby
And it will be wonderful
Fajardo and Odle as backup isn't bad one bit.
English

The leftyification of St. Louis begins soon and it will be wonderful.
It’s all quirky dudes and it’s gonna rock
Kyle Reis, 58% Neanderthal@kyler416
I am excited for Quinn Mathews. You should be excited for Quinn Mathews. He is a very talented pitcher, and he’s quirky. Also, be cool, ya know?
English

These are the deals that used to COOK for the Cardinals… Deals for Scott, Jimmy, Holliday, Renteria, Big Mac etc. heck even Goldy and Nado more recently
Augie Nash@AugieNash
#OTD 2002 - The Cardinals acquire Scott Rolen, along with minor league reliever Doug Nickle, from the Phillies in exchange for Placido Polanco, Bud Smith and Mike Timlin. One of those players went on to the Hall of Fame. #STLCards
English

@Cardinals_Live_ Matthew’s walk rate was silly until about 4 starts ago. I think your frustrations are a bit premature. Rebuild years suck , it took to long to start ours and now we are in the middle of it
English

@SandyMac718 Church and Jordan may develop. They don’t have a huge amount of MLB experience. Both unlike VS2 had good numbers in AAA. Not that it always translates but at least they have had success at the next highest level. I’m not saying there are not better options.
English

JJ Wetherholt is a stud. Jordan Walker is a superstar.
Alec Burleson is a great piece on offense. Ivan Herrera can stay healthy but might be tired.
Kyle Leahy can start and do a pretty good job of it. Andre Pallante can still suppress hard contact at an elite level.
The #STLCards have gotten a lot of answers this year. These are probably most of the good ones.
On the flip side: Matthew Liberatore isn’t a starter. Masyn Winn is, at best, a league average bat. Blaze Jordan probably isn’t the solution at third. Victor Scott and Nathan Church both represent stopgaps in center. Reliever volatility hit hard, and Svanson, O’Brien, and others are huge question marks now.
English

@LO_Cardinals Your memes are better when you are miserable. I’m sorry for your suffering
English

@Cardinals_Live_ They’re not going to be able to rebuild this in one season. there’s a lot of youth on this team and our best pictures are still recovering from off-season surgeries or developing in the minors. There’s way too much to buy to be a contender. Fans are fickle and self-serving.
English

Play for 2027?
A common statement -
Think on this -
A collapse in 2026 -
Another sell off
Losing record
4 years no playoffs
And then no baseball in 2027
I hope the #stlcards and Chaim bloom don't over estimate how much the fans are truly bought back in -
They're very close to destroying this franchise with a lockout looming
English

@IfindRetards I don’t think it’s fair for the other competing retards that she’s allowed in the competition. She’s clearly in the retard Hall of Fame.
English

@STLfan006457 He’s a fantastic bullpen arm. Releasing somebody of value would not be very smart. That guy would be on a roster in about 15 minutes. He’s probably not a starter, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have value.
English

If Libby is not traded (lol), DFA/Release him
If Libby is not DFA'd or released, don't renew his contract at the end of year
The point is, he can NOT be on this team (preferably beginning ASAP) but DEFINTELY not beyond this year.
He's a bust and the Rays knew it
#STLCards
English

@SandyMac718 I’m intrigued by what Libby may look like as a closer. High pedigree prospect that never lived up to it . Like Jason ishringhausen . I’m sure I didn’t spell that right but you all know I mean Izzy.
English

I cannot wait to see what the pitching staff looks like next year for the #STLCards
Young talent in the rotation and a completely overhauled bullpen!
Rotation:
Mathews
Dobbins
Pallante
Leahy
MaGreevy
Bullpen:
Libby
Rajcic
Gastelum
Mautz
_________ (Svanson? O’Brien?)
_________
_________
_________
Gonna be nice to overhaul this and get things rolling again
English

@RayMileur1 I wonder if Liberatore could potentially close? In a rebuild year, why not? He may not be a starter
English

The Armchair GM - I understand why Riley O’Brien’s name keeps coming up in trade conversations.
He is a late-inning arm. He has handled the closer’s role. He is under club control for years. That combination always gets attention at the deadline.
But I am still in favor of keeping him.
The biggest reason is simple: the cost is too low to rush into a move.
He's making $795,050 this season, which is basically near the league minimum in today’s game. He is still in his pre-arbitration years, does not reach arbitration until later, and the Cardinals have control of him for several more seasons.
That matters.
If he were a pending free agent, this would be a different conversation. If he were getting expensive quickly, I would understand trying to cash in. But when you have a productive back-end bullpen arm making that little, and you can still control him beyond this season, there is real value in keeping him.
Bullpen arms are volatile. We all know that. A reliever can look untouchable one month and human the next. That is the argument for trading him while his value is high.
I get it.
But the Cardinals also need good pitchers.
At some point, you cannot keep trading away the few affordable, effective arms you actually have and then wonder why the bullpen is always being patched together.
If another club wants to overpay, the Cardinals should listen. They should always listen.
But I am not moving O’Brien just to move him.
The return would have to be significant. Not a lottery ticket. Not a couple of fringy pieces. Not “bullpen arms are replaceable” as the entire argument.
If a team wants a cheap, controllable closer, then it needs to pay like it is acquiring one.
Otherwise, I keep him.
Low salary.
Years of control.
Late-inning role.
That is not something I am eager to give away at yard sale prices.
