@EricBowman_ @TravelPulse Great point as the customer service is often the first interaction we receive because it begins at checkin. However, for me I can often overlook that experience if the room is on point. Mostly the cleanliness of it. If room ain’t clean even a great checkin doesn’t help.

This is a creation that is near and dear to my heart. It’s a performance that is featured in the #IconoftheSeas’ Aquashow, #AquaAction, and I can proudly say that I personally built it from scratch. Hand Balancing is a very beautiful and highly respected specialty art that is centuries old, with a strong and long tradition in both the classic and contemporary circus worlds. While working on my various strategies for the Icon Class’ game changing entertainment, the idea came to me of combining this traditional circus style act with the new and innovative water technology that I was developing for the Aquatheater, and then to include this totally new entertainment concept in the Icon’s Aquashow. (This was an example of the rare but wonderful occasion when a new entertainment idea comes into my head, fully formed… I could literally see the whole thing in my mind’s eye). Although unfortunately, ONLY I COULD SEE IT, 😂 …and it took everybody else a lot of convincing. Everybody had similar sensible concerns: “It will be too slippery for the artists to keep their balance”; “they won’t be able to see anything”; “the high pressure fountains will push them over”; “their hair and costumes will get soaking wet, and they can’t possibly achieve this level of balance while drenched”… etc etc. The list of objections and challenges was long and even the artists’ agents were convinced that it was impossible (and were therefore unwittingly stopping their artists from getting a spectacular new opportunity 😳…). Anyway, slowly but surely they all changed their minds and ironically, everybody involved in creating this magnificent piece of performance art, ended up delivering their best work ever. The final results are very special… For your interest and perusal, I called this new art form “Aqua Balancing”, and the powerful and highly emotional number that we created to show it off to the world is called “Crying in the Rain”. (And it has a very deliberate, very strong and very important message…)

Hi. Yes… and you are very welcome! As I have previously mentioned, I determined the E = mc ² of the traditional mustering exercise, stripped out everything else and then came up with a concept for a mobile app based solution. Then, after a year or so of deep thinking, (and a tad of second guessing), I met with some old U.S. Coast Guard buddies that I knew from my thirty years in the industry, to test my theory and to double check that I had fully optimized the invention. Incidentally, we met at an iconic restaurant/watering hole in Fort Lauderdale called the @SouthportRawBar, a place that is famous amongst locals, boaters, fishermen, and cruise-ship crew members. (I’ve been going there since the eighties). It feels entirely appropriate that this famous waterside eatery was the location for a secret meeting between a bunch of old pals, that changed the maritime and cruise industry forever. By the way, they serve the best conch fritters in the entire world. 😉 @emmacruises @theRCLblog @RoyalCaribbean

@NickWeirShowbiz Wow thank you sooooo much for this. Didn’t realize it was from you but after 70+ cruises, what a welcome addition to my favorite way to vacation. Now if we could just get Disney onboard I would be even more delighted. You never seize to amaze me!

eMuster™️ Thanks Bobby. I was recently asked: How come it’s an “entertainment guy” that has reinvented the Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) mustering process in a game changing and super innovative way, that has changed the maritime industry forever? ~ Firstly, while I was very flattered, I didn’t really agree with the premise of the question. Entertainment is only one of my areas of interest and professional focus. I spend a lot of my time thinking about many different aspects of the cruise, leisure and vacation experience, and I hope that my ideas and inventions will continue to contribute to the forward progress of the these industries for years to come. Regarding the development of Muster 2.0 (eMuster): As a writer, I often find it useful to think in terms of creating and telling compelling and engaging stories. A good story needs a beginning, a middle, and an end, with a solid narrative and an underlying message, and these five things need to be well balanced and crystal clear. For the past 100 years, the “mustering story” of the cruise industry (and the ocean-liner industry that preceded it), was ALL MIDDLE. Frankly speaking, it had a lousy beginning, an anticlimactic ending, and nobody understood the most important part, the underlying message. People were often left wondering: “What the heck was that all about? What am I supposed to do?” So, to put it simply, (and to stay with my story telling metaphor), I gave the old, traditional, antiquated, bloated and ineffective, “Mustering and Safety Story”, a complete and total rewrite. There was too much clutter, too much noise, and way too much information. Nobody had taken a close look at the effectiveness of the process, or done any analysis, or given the process a revision, for decades. Also, nobody had ever sat with the Coast Guard and asked them directly: “What do you guys really want from this?” I added simplicity and clarity, brought the main theme forward, and made room for (and included) modern technology. I’m a huge fan of Albert Einstein, so I would say that I found the E = mc ² of it all… Which in the case of pre departure mustering is: “This is the location of your muster station and this is where you come in an emergency. We’ll take care of the rest”. In the movie business, we would say that we “cut to the chase”… Amen to that. …and then I put it all in an APP. 🖐️🎤⬇️ …and you’re welcome 😉

@NickWeirShowbiz I had been on 10 cruises before emuster. I didn’t even realize why I was standing where I was. I was simply sent to a spot to line up, listen to the speech, blast my ears and it was over.

Well thank you David. Much appreciated. To your point, this will be both an amazing show, AND a technical masterpiece… So it’s a double whammy as my parting gift to the wonderful audiences at @RoyalCaribbean, and to my amazing team of ten years.

For those asking what my source was about DAS abuse being off the charts, well now you have it. Yes, nearly 60% of all LL scans are currently DAS scans. And according to Disney, this number is 3x higher than what it used to be just 5 years ago.
