@TheZodiacHeir I think people just thought it was too depressing and don't like to think about/see mental health struggles on scene, and so they call all of it 'bad'. They only want to engage with it when its positive adventuring and killing bad guys and saving the world, not the rough parts.

ATLA, as a show, has way more development, and a better story, but character-wise, Korra is the better-written character. They chose to deviate from the "hero's journey" and tell us a story with a character who fails on her own and keeps getting up. Aang was always saved.

Korra dealt with REAL themes:
- depression
- anxiety
- trauma and recovery (ptsd)
- spiritual disconnect -> connection
- loss of self
- identity beyond power
- identity beyond being a hero
- accountability of mistakes (and accepting consequences)
- growing from failure

If you go beyond the blue box line, you get angry comments that weak players can't reach blue threshold before it dies.
If you get strictly blue box and move on to the next raid, you get angry comments that the raid has stalled.
There is no win condition here.

@TheBirbPrincess @MBTYuGiOh Pokemon also doesn't use a resource system for its cards, so it really is just most games taking after Magic over other options. It's a shame more games don't make it as interesting as Digimon though, yeah.

@MBTYuGiOh I will say that some kind of resource system is needed for all cards games (Since yugioh is practically the only game that can get away with it) just making "Mana but again" is the trap most card games fall into. I wish there were more games like Digimon.

one of the downsides of mtg being the first (and also the best) big card game is that every subsequent card game falls for Garfield’s Trick: thinking that “mana” must be included in the game at all

@RubyMedallion About two weeks after I started playing high tide I just made an app on my phone to track storm count, high tide count, and floating mana count with little fiddling needed. Just tap the icon and how much you spend and it tracked the rest for me. Only usable at fnm sadly

one time i was playing in a spotlight and i was in a storm mirror and my opponent pulled out individual pokemon energy cards to track both storm count and floating mana and it was the most miserable thing to track as an experienced storm pilot

Question: Should tokens be required for Comp REL? I’ve seen several instances lately of players losing track of the board state due to a Pokémon card or equivalent being used to represent a game object. Sure the other player agrees in the moment, but this is fairly necessary

@Elevation @victryena Replays of a turn based game like Pokemon takes up basically no space. The game already knows how to parse the actions taken and present the animations, those don't have to be saved. Just the teams and move selections. You could do that in less than a couple pages of a book.

@victryena Replays require servers to be set up and maintained. That or your console would need to be rigged via the software to always save replays of every match until a point where they’re auto deleted. A 20 minute match could be several gigabytes of data, which isn’t feasible.

no murkrow, p2, clefairy, magmar/electabuzz, etc is eviolite too hard of a concept for new players 💀 im assuming this is their way of cutting corners to avoid adding the whole dex. hopefully they add exceptions. also no replays in big 2026 lol bajillion dollar franchise btw

@jonathan_tene I assume it's just that the game is still new. sts1 went through so many patch changes and card changes to get to the place that it is now, it didn't start anywhere near this balanced. I assume we'll end up getting a ton of complete card reworks at some point

Other than infinites, the other reason I'm saying watcher is because there feels like there's such a clear divide between good and bad cards for some characters (even worse when the bad cards r rare and good ones r common/uncommon). This could def be skill issue on my part tho

Finished a10 on everyone in spire 2, I think defect is still my favorite character. Feels like draw + free energy is way too plentiful and lets you go infinite/psuedo infinite, so every other character sorta feels like watcher who I really hated in 1
