The UK is deferring the DeFi tax bill The UK will stop treating crypto lending and liquidity pool deposits as a taxable event, deferring capital gains tax until you actually sell. From April 2027, HMRC will apply "no gain, no loss" treatment, ending a 2022 rule that could tax users on paper before any real disposal. It reaches around 700,000 people. Not a free pass though, the standard CGT of 18 to 24% still lands when you finally exit, and the draft law isn't written yet. Aave founder Stani Kulechov (@StaniKulechov) called it a major win. Another sign the UK wants DeFi to stay.

Regulatory cleanup sounds bullish, but the real test is clarity not slogans. Markets need rules that protect users without pushing builders offshore.
