*GMC Anantnag Achieves Another Remarkable Milestone: Become the only institution to successfully extract more than a decade old Infected pacemaker lead under C-Arm* Anantang, 15 February 2025 In the journey towards achieving excellence in patient care and academics, GMC Anantnag becomes the only medical institution to remove a more than a decade old Infected pacemaker lead under C Arm. This was reported by Interventional cardiologist Dr Syed Maqbool working at and heading the cardiology Unit of GMC Anantang. Dr Maqbool further said that by performing this procedure, GMC Anantnag becomes the second Medical Institution after SKIMS in Jammu and Kashmir to remove an old and infected tined pacemaker lead from a elderly patient. The 11-year-old tined pacemaker lead was removed by using a lead locking device and tight rail. The pacemaker was implanted to the 75 year old patient in 2015 at SKIMS Soura Srinagar. He presented to GMC Anantang with an episode of loss of consciousness. During the clinical examination it was discovered that the pacemaker battery was exhausted. A fresh pacemaker was implanted on the right side of the chest to keep him safe and sound. The old pacemaker lead on the left side had extruded out of pocket for the last few years and was causing recurrent infection. Dr Maqbool said that this is a very complex procedure and although being done regularly at SKIMS, GMC Anantnag becomes the second institution in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir to do so, notwithstanding the challenges of manpower and other resources. Principal and Dean, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb congratulated the division of cardiology for making GMC Anantnag proud once again. The division of cardiology appreciated the support of the worthy Principal and said that without her support it was not possible to even think of performing such a demanding and high end procedures at the facility.
