but yes, you need totality. In Idris it's quite easy to require without too much extra effort, but it's been a while since I last tried it.

even purity doesn’t save you here. In Haskell:

you need purity _and_ totality which is something you typically only get from theorem provers (if you disable sorry-esque escape hatches)
