@imtreysmith There’s really only one g6 up for consideration if nothing else changes and that’s UConn for the hoops ACC needs the juice and their football program could tread water in the ACC even without tv money.

This might be a moot point given the current state of this PCSA but… The only way I see current non-autonomous conference teams (“G6”) getting invites to autonomous conferences (“P4”) is if there were to be some shakeup and realignment amongst P4’s…not sure I see a scenario where a current P4 is willing to play Independent for 5 years just to join another P4. I think this ultimately ‘freezes’ realignment in some form or fashion (unless Notre Dame football decides to join a P4). I guess I need it explained as to why the ACC or Big 12 would need to expand or extend a new invite if none of their existing members were to leave. Can someone break it down for me?

The expansion provision caps conferences at 19 members and requires schools moving from one power league to another to operate as an independent for five years.

@SagedaddyZero I get what you’re saying, but the “need” to add more product stemmed from losing teams and with super-conferences basically already formed there’s not gonna be a need to add more teams Again, probably a moot point cause it’s not looking good for the PCSA…

@imtreysmith Agree on ND and 19, P4 universites not being able to switch power conferces has not been done before. Eventually, one conference will decide to add more product, possible at ESPN or other entities request/demand/legislation etc.

When the Tigers were 2-10, Fred Smith was willing to dish out $10M per yr to any BCS (now called “power”) conference who would invite Memphis — this was a decade and a half ago He again pledged more millions to the Big 12 in 2016 lobbying for an invite Fuente, in his first season as HC, named Cannon Smith (grandson) to the team Leadership Council — Fuente would go on to rebuild & put Memphis on the football map These don’t even scratch the surface of the long history & relationship between FedEx/Memphis athletics I would love to see Arkansas football become what everyone in the state knows it can become & I’d love to see Silverfield be that guy…RS did a great job fundraising in his role as Memphis HC, but let’s not act like he was some sort of catalyst for getting FedEx “involved” The commitment/investment was already in place & RS was a good steward of that foundation

When Ryan Silverfield got FedEx involved with Memphis football it led to 11 wins. If he can get Walmart onboard at Arkansas like he suggested at SEC Media Days, “it’s over” for the rest of CFB. If he can lead the Razorbacks to some semblance of success this fall… watch out.

I get that perspective… I think the “19” is more about making sure ND has its pick of the litter But even for those 5 to get the invite, there’s gotta be some movement across the existing autonomous (that’s typically how it’s always been) — when has a (what we now call) non-autonomous gotten an invite without prior movement?

@imtreysmith It's a hard cap on the total Autonomous teams in the long run. Not about rushing to get to 19 teams in each power conference. There are maybe 5 top of G6 teams end up flushing out the power conferences, eventually, but it seems like a pull up the ladder kinda move.

10 conference champion auto bids + 14 at-large would be ideal But I’d even be ecstatic about a 7-17 Model 1 - ACC 🏆 1 - Big 10 🏆 1 - Big 12 🏆 1 - SEC 🏆 1 - American 🏆 1 - Pac 12 🏆 1 - CUSA/MW/SBC highest ranked 🏆 (3 conferences battling for one spot is better than 6) 17 - At-Large (plenty of slots for ND, runner ups, and 3-loss teams from ‘tougher conferences’)

B1G's Tony Petitti on playoff expansion: "I've never heard (SEC's Greg Sankey) say he won't consider 24. We're not focused on auto qualifiers, the committee will pick the field of 24. There's been a lot of movement among coaches around the country that 24 is the right number"

And perhaps the biggest question: can HC Billy Napier develop and bring him along? I firmly believe templates/blueprints sustain success in non-autonomous conferences (because you can’t rely on players/coaches). @imtreysmith If it did go to 24 the 7-17 model might even help keep things more regional within the “mid majors”. I believe the PAC and American in their current forms deserve more representation in the CFP. Can’t wait to prove it on the field. Sons of Montezuma, we will win again!

So what’s your argument? That no one will watch? (genuinely asking) Obviously the G6 matchups don’t do numbers like the bigger programs, but let’s not act like millions of people won’t be tuning in — and if some rules could get in place that allow G6’s to actually build their programs (and not have to start over every year), you’d begin to have more upset threats which would increase that viewership even more
