@dcuworld Rucka's story with the planet and the bugle felt like it did the best job in showing the differences between the two and bringing them together.
Simones story was the big surprise though.

Hoult carries that movie on his fucking back for most of it i liked Corenswet but its hoult doing the very heavy lifting.
He felt like lex had jumped off the pages.

@nerdyjewtakes @ComicsMeta With penguin reeves also actively spoke about how books like dark victory, year one and how certain writers inspired how he wanted oz and the story to work.
He might of compared it to mafia shows as well but thats also a medium that suits penguin and gotham.

You can tell if a comic book adaptation is gonna suck ass by whether or not they talk about the comics they’re adapting or whether or not they keep insisting “it’s gonna be like that other show/movie that’s popular rn”

Because no one that's an actual long term fan of #GreenLantern would want "a grounded approach."
We would want to see Green Lanterns in their strength; and their entire core mythology is translating emotional energy spectrums divided by color into plasma constructs, only limited by the imagination of the ring bearer.
Ain't no "grounded" nowhere in that premise.
This approach would work with a street level hero.
Green Arrow, Black Canary, Arsenal, The Question, Huntress, Nightwing, Batwoman....those are the characters that this approach is for.

Something I realized a while ago, especially the last few years watching the online comic space… some of the loudest voices claiming to be experts on these characters only seem to know the surface level version of them. The immediate pushback to the Lanterns teaser has been strange to watch. As a lifelong comic fan, I honestly don’t get how people aren’t intrigued by this approach. A grounded, real-world take on Green Lantern with Hal Jordan and John Stewart investigating a murder? That’s a fresh angle. It honestly reminds me a bit of the old Green Lantern/Green Arrow run where the story pulled these characters into grounded situations and real-world issues while still staying true to who they are. Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre are strong actors, and the True Detective-style tone they pitched could actually bring a lot of new people into the Green Lantern world. Not everything has to look like a giant CGI space battle to feel like Green Lantern. And I still remember when people were trashing the Penguin trailer and complaining that the character was even getting a show in the first place. Now those same people act like they always loved it and like The Penguin was the best thing ever. Sometimes the most interesting thing you can do with these characters is drop them into the real world and let the mystery unfold. Curious to see where this goes.

I think "Trying to be critically acclaimed" is the issue. Its a show with dudes flying around and making boxing gloves and tennis rackets with glowing rings. Sacrificing the mythos just so you can be "taken seriously" is horseshit.

Its how we got the dumb black adam stuff in dark crisis and waller being destroyed character wise.
But it doesn't matter to them because they will never read a comic

I wish that people who make fun of comic fans for having negative reactions to inaccurate adaptations would understand that comic fans have these strong negative reactions because a bad adaptation has the potential to impact actual comic writing
