@dolphinmaria For apparently intelligent people, contraception seems to have been something of a challenge as well.

Oh Cristo, I never thought I’d disagree with you this much, but on this one I really do. I nursed my own mother through her final days with cancer while I was heavily pregnant. I gave birth to my son just before she died — he was only 2 months old when she passed. I couldn’t leave her. She needed me. If I hadn’t been allowed to stay in that house, I would have been on the street with a newborn baby after months of caring for my dying mum. Not everything is black and white. Council homes aren’t just “properties” — they’re family homes, just like any other. Families live there, love there, grieve there, and sometimes care for each other through the hardest times there. Compassion has to exist somewhere in the system

@dolphinmaria The COVID debt and the '08 banking debt will not be dented in my lifetime. Possibly not in my children's lifetimes either. I can always hope for my grandchildren I suppose.

@Big_Phil_01 @BBCr4today There's been no shortage of pieces about Starmer and Farage. There's no reason why the Greens should get a free pass.

@BBCr4today So a focus on Starmer not Polanki’s council tax or Farage and his £5 million brown envelope. Shame on the BBC adding to inflation, borrowing cost and the instability.

The Green Party has admitted that its leader Zack Polanski has, until recently, been living on a houseboat in London and may have failed to pay council tax. Dan Neidle, founder of Tax Policy Associates, says he'd like to see an 'explanation' of what happened. A party spokesperson said Mr Polanski had 'taken steps to pay any council tax he may be found to owe' and 'apologised sincerely for the unintentional mistake'.

@FamilyLawCafe I really can't see the point of this application. As far as I can see all the assets are out of the jurisdiction, so how is it enforceable? There was a previous application in another jurisdiction, an order was made and implemented. Many millions were paid to the wife.

@incognitionuk @noclador Until the Cypriots will demand the brits to stop the occupation of 3% of their island. An occupation that only brings them attacks from Iran. And a matter of time until the argentines will take back the “Falklands”

So many Brits tweeting "Falklands are British"... which is a sign of despair. If you got an interesting island & no navy to defend it, a mightier navy will come & take it. The Brits should know all about this... as island grabbing is what the Royal Navy did for 4 centuries

@incognitionuk @noclador The Brit’s weren’t even the first one to discover the islands just the western one. “Port Stanley” was a French village that was later diplomatically moved to Spain. In the mean while the Brit’s left for decades and the Argentine’s started using it and then the brits returned.

@KennyEdw I think you'll find it props up the Chinese economy. That's the world's major manufacturing centre and has been for a long time now.

It feels like our leaders are de-industrialising Europe in order to prop up the US economy. Why would they willingly shut us off from cheap oil and gas? Why make our goods uncompetitive? It makes no sense.

@hughp1970 @ds9trek @DanielJHannan It's not investment, it's spending. Investment is spending to generate a financial return. Statistics now show that a high proportion of those entering the country will cost the state more than they generate, so accommodating them is expenditure, not investment.

@ds9trek @DanielJHannan The problem is a lack of investment in all of those things. This lack of investment isn't the fault of immigrants. Pretty sure I was reasonably clear about that the first time round.

“For reasons which they could not comprehend, and in pursuance of a decision by default, on which they were never consulted, they found themselves made strangers in their own country. They found their wives unable to obtain hospital beds in childbirth, their children unable to obtain school places, their homes and neighbourhoods changed beyond recognition, their plans and prospects for the future defeated; at work they found that employers hesitated to apply to the immigrant worker the standards of discipline and competence required of the native-born worker; they began to hear, as time went by, more and more voices which told them that they were now the unwanted. On top of this, they now learn that a one-way privilege is to be established by Act of Parliament; a law which cannot, and is not intended to, operate to protect them or redress their grievances, is to be enacted to give the stranger, the disgruntled and the agent provocateur the power to pillory them for their private actions.” #OTD 1968
