@benonwine Concentrate on being the best you can be in your chosen career rather than playing the victim and alienating yourself from opportunity. Case study: Sol Campbell

Place In The Sun presenter Scarlette Douglas has opened up the difficulties she says she faces as a black woman working in television… “I have to work twice as hard because I’m wanted twice as less.” Anyone else not sick of this SHIT! What message would you give Scarlette?

@TheGriftReport Think she should put her energy into being the best she can be in her chosen field rather than playing the victim card and potentially alienating herself from opportunity. Sounds like a female version of Sol Campbell!

Black TV Presenter says she "can never win" Scarlette Douglas says she has to “work twice as hard because I’m wanted twice as less” as a black woman in TV. The 39-year-old A Place in the Sun presenter told the Daily Mail she feels she can “never win” in the industry. She said: “I’ve always felt that I’ve walked into a room, and instantly, there’s that kind of air of, ‘oh, they’re not gonna be that good’… I have to work twice as hard because I’m wanted twice as less.” Scarlette, who also appeared on I’m A Celebrity in 2022, added that black women are judged far more harshly than other minorities when they speak up labelled “angry black woman” with a “chip on her shoulder,” while similar behaviour from others is seen as “fiery.” She says using her platform to call out unconscious bias is necessary “to make a positive change,” even though she used to be too scared to speak out. Thoughts?

Net migration is a potential distortion of the argument because it is the difference between those arriving and those leaving. You could have even greater numbers of people arriving but if the numbers choosing to leave increase even further it may result in a reduction in net migration. In the meantime the composition of the population, its culture, its cost base and GDP would change

This should destroy Nigel Farage’s entire political argument. Net migration has collapsed from 944,000 to around 204,000, yet voters still think it’s rising because Reform and Farage have spent years feeding Britain hysteria instead of facts. Asylum seekers are only about 9% of immigration, not the “invasion” constantly screamed about. The NHS was broken by underfunding. Housing was broken by austerity. Wages were crushed by corporate greed. Migrants were the distraction. Not the cause.

Love and solidarity to my brilliant colleague Carla - I'm really proud that she is being so open about this. The huge success the Green Party is seeing now wouldn't be possible without her years of hard work - we're standing on the shoulders of giants 💚

Following my doctor’s advice, I am taking some time away from work for health reasons. My office will be functioning as usual and my staff are there to support all my constituents who need help, so please don't hesitate to get in touch. See my full statement below.

If someone is genuinely struggling with burnout or bad health, they are entitled to take time off. A lot of people are saying the timing is convenient because summer is starting, but bad health is never convenient. It can hit anyone at any time. That said, MPs hold high pressure public roles. If someone feels unable to do the job long term, voters are also entitled to ask whether stepping down is the right option. Where do you stand? Take time off and recover, or step down completely?

If only Labour had policies for growing the economy, increasing employment, reducing borrowing, reducing interest rates, curtailing the benefit burden and reducing taxation then sops like tax payer funded discounts on summer trips and bus fares for kids wouldn’t be needed and wouldn’t add to the growing state controlled red tape burden for businesses.

It was a privilege to meet the PM yesterday with my daughter to hear about what the government is doing to help families. Reducing VAT on trips and children’s meals will make this summer more affordable for families like mine across the nation. Thank you @Keir_Starmer.

@TheRealJamieKay What nonsense - where are the real policies to increase employment, reduce inflation, create economic growth and to make work pay rather than another sop policy to try and wallpaper over the gaping cracks in Labour’s approach.

Rachel Reeves cutting VAT on family summer activities is exactly the kind of practical politics people want to see. Helping families afford days out, freezing fuel duty and easing pressure during the holidays instead of endless culture wars? More of this please.
