@BBCPolitics Unfortunately he doesn’t have the backing of the public, I would say that in giving him their vote the Labour MP’s are acting “beyond the powers” @BBCNewsnight ?

President Trump declares the US will reinstate the Iranian blockade and serve as ‘guardian of the Hormuz Strait’, collecting a 20% toll on all cargo shipped to cover the costs of securing the waterway. Thanks a bunch Big Don. You break it. The rest of us have to pay for it #shambles

Mick Jagger: Fans Don’t Want Political Lectures at Concerts Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger pushed back against the trend of musicians delivering political speeches from the stage, following Bruce Springsteen’s recent anti-Trump remarks. Speaking in a Saturday interview on The New York Times’ podcast, Jagger said fans come to shows for an escape: “The bottom line of my thing really is that my job in the live music world is for those people that come is to have the best time they possibly can. For two hours or whatever it is, to forget all their problems and the problems of the world… You don’t want to lecture them.” He added that “Nobody wants to hear a whole song about politics.” (Video: AI) Do you agree with Jagger that concerts should be an escape from politics? Or do you think artists should use their platform to speak out?

@andyburnham @lemnsissay With your emergence as a new mp and with your imminent take over of that of Prime Minister as I can see you only have the confidence of those MP’s nominating you, in order that the country has that same confidence you need to ask them with a General Election?

As the first day of nominations draws to a close, I am deeply grateful to the 322 Labour MPs who have put their trust in me and nominated me for Leader of the Labour Party. Their support comes from across the PLP and reflects a shared belief that Britain needs a new approach to politics. That is the circuit breaker I am offering: power out of Westminster, an economy rewired for ordinary people, and good growth in every postcode. I want to empower MPs to bring the experiences of their constituents into the heart of government, and harness the full breadth of our Labour movement, drawing on all its traditions and beliefs in pursuit of a common purpose. I want to thank every colleague who has nominated me for their commitment to that vision.
